 | GE would be the best company to buy Echostar I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the best company for for Echostar to get bought by in terms additional capital, negotiating power with competing vertical monopolies like News Corp, and Comcast would be GE. Right now Echostar gets bullied in every carriage deal because they have nothing to bully back with. That's why every carriage negotiation results in a blackout. It's Charlie's only weapon. Rupert just says to Comcast, "If you rip me off on OLN, I'll pull the same thing on you with all the Fox stations." If Dish gets bought by GE, they can play the same game with CNBC, MSNBC, Bravo, Univision, and all the NBC local affiliates. Plus, this won't have the horizontal monopoly concerns that a takeover by News Corp/DirecTV would. |
