Download limit...

I was thinking of joining up with San Bruno Cable but I read something about a download limit. Do they actually only limit you to 5 Gigs of downloading a month?

no it's 50 at least as of a few months ago than you get super heavily throttled.

I called them and they said 5gb...I guess they only come down on you if you really abuse it.

Their definition of real abuse is most likely on the ridiculous low side if they are even bantering about 5 gigs:(.

Yeah...I read thier ToS and called them up and it said 5 gigs. Anything more than that and its 10 bucks for every gig you go over...how does someone use High Speed Internet with a 5 Gig limit? You can go through that in 1 or 2 hours....

Yeah, it's complete bs to offer a service like this and expect someone to use so little of it. Especially with the majority of subscribers most likely having multiple computers/users. They should really go back to having another company run their internet service and even having a rate increase if it's needed. Life was much better before they decided to do everything themselves. The service was faster and no one was trying to enforce such unrealistic usage limits. A 5 gig limit is good for an hour or two of browsing a night without clicking on many multimedia links and checking ones email but anything over that and one will for sure go over. Forget about enjoying youtube, streaming radio or getting a linux distro etc. Even the $10 bucks a gig over is really outrageous. I wonder if they are reading these threads.

Thanks for the post. Hopefully you are in range for dsl unlike those of us that are unlucky.

Are you getting charged on going over 5 Gigs? Cuz my friend that uses San Bruno Cable isn't getting charged and he is torrenting like crazy.

sanbrunocableuser

@sanbrunocable.com

No, I haven't been charged extra yet thank god. I was told to keep it under 50 gigs a month though. I really think 50 is on the very low side of what a cable isp calls abuse. Are there any other American cable isp's that anyone knows of that also consider 50gigs or lower a month to be abuse? I'm guessing there aren't many if any. 5 gigs a month just sounds like a joke. All this makes me wish we had the choice of getting Comcast here instead of Sanbrunocable due to their fairer definition of what they consider abuse and allowable usage. I have to admit though that I do like the TV part of Sanbrunocable's service but the internet leaves something to be desired especially when one compares it to the other cable providers in our area.

Do you have any idea how much bandwidth your friend is now using a month? Maybe San Bruno Cable got more lax with their enforcement after the March crackdown.

He does some video editing and uploads to his site so he uploads at least 10 gigs a month. He also torrents songs and movies like crazy so thats another 30 gigs at least. I don't think anyone else considers 5 gigs to be abuse...That in my opinion is very low usuage for high speed internet.

sanbrunocableuser

@sanbrunocable.com

Even considering 50 gigs to be abuse is on the low side in my opinion. Hopefully they rethink this and up it to something more realistic and fair in the future. Enjoying Youtube, Googlevideo etc sure racks up month usage in a hurry.

I seriously wonder who is in charge of San Bruno Cable right now? I'm betting he knows nothing of computers or the internet if he considers 5 gigs to be abuse.
