ADSL2+ so why only 8Mbps?

Standard dsl can offer 8Mbps at it's max, so why offer the same speed that standard dsl is capable of with adsl2+?

ADSL2 bonds two pairs, so those close to the CO can get 24 MB/s and those farther out, it will help lower the line stats so they can get something better than 1.5 MB/s bandwidth. Also DSL is limited to 6 Mb/s download and 768 Kb/s upload.

No I believe he's right. All regular ADSL offers here (EU) are up to 8Mbps. I also think that it's 8Mbps of ATM speed, so your actual IP bandwidth might be a bit lower. Not sure about that last part though
