| The problem is they never change "laws" or "rules" that get passed, thats why so much waste is around.
You see it here on dslreports on the quotes like "Its against the law to walk backwards in main". Stupid stuff like that is what is what gives a whirlpool of money to waste. |

That is in reference to a different tax, the Federal Excise Tax. It was a tax to help pay for the cost of the Spanish-American War. It is no longer being collected on monthly bills for long-distance services and those bundled with wireless and Web-based services. It is, however, still in effect in regards to local telephone service (POTS), although that may stop soon, too.
Maybe if we fight long and hard against the USF, it will go away, too. I just hope it doesn't take 108 years, that's how long the FET existed. (Can you imagine how much money was collected in that time span?) |
