lightzoutPremium join:2005-07-29 San Anselmo, CA | False advertising from Apple? Every time I see one of those "I am a Mac" ads where the guy jumps out of the box claiming he is ready to go tackle the world I just chuckle. Its mostly true. Apple products are great, as long you keep buying them every time they release a new product and dont mind paying more for less choices. But if your really a mac guy or gal why do you want to run other stuff anyway? I like Macs and our family has a virtual museum of apple pcs but the air of universal superiority they try to profess is puzzling considering the platforms relatively narrow choices for programs, apps and above all else games compared to the windows based machines. But why exactly are comcast consumers complaining (although the article only seemed to mention one woman from berkely complaining) that they cant use a free photo or music app? Maybe they didnt know iphoto wasnt bundled in a Tiger upgrade and didnt want to buy ilife? Comcast works great with Macs. I am a PC guy and I just setup my home network and my wifes office with Mac hardware. It wasn't cheap but most PC owners know the hidden cost of using "free" bundled applications. Apple is premium line folks. Lame article, I assume the author really needed a fast tidbit. |

If Mac's, or Linux, could just get a version of DirectX working, I'd be willing to give them each another try. Unfortunately, family and work definitely take precedence over continually trying to get an incompatible format working with all the stuff I use my system for. |

Is it really that or it's simply the fact that you don't want to relearn how to use a computer? |

Ahrenl join:2004-10-26 North Andover, MA | I can also say that I don't want to relearn how to use a computer.. I've spent enough of my life learning how to use 98% of the computers out there, without spending more time learning about niche computers that I'll never HAVE to use..
Good point though.. |

I have had one kernel panic in the three or so years I have been using it. I do occassionally reboot to clear out the memory since I dont have a ton installed but that is it. So learn about the OS before you mock it. And its Mac, not MAC--that is the address on your modem. Sigh. |

OSX is very nice and stable, but since upgrading to Win XP, I haven't had many problems on my Windows box either. I like 'em both, for all their benefits and drawbacks. There's room enough in this world for both camps without needing to sling mud at each other. -- With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. |

The moment YOU actually were part of the creation of the code which made the operating system is the day I will give you any credibility of being offended by someone talking about the presciou MAC operating system... so get over yourself Myrna. |

 | reply to HappyBunny In a publishing company I used to support, the brand spanking new iMac's running of course OSX used to crash several times a day if not more, it was painful. All they ran was photoshop and Quark.
The ended up slowely getting rid of 6 of them and replacing them with Dell's which seemed to fair much better.
But of course since YOUR computer never crashs then NONE of them can ever crash! |

Ahrenl join:2004-10-26 North Andover, MA | The same can be said for PC boxes.. None of my three WinXP boxes ever crashes either. Programs running on them may crash, but the systems are rocks. Of course I don't let anyone install anything on any of them, and they get frequent cleaning, are behind hardware and software firewalls, and all run AVG. (Plus a yahoo norton AV scan for all email on top of AVG). |
|
 | reply to HappyBunny 6 users, 6 iMacs, sometimes unattended, same problem? Maybe but like I said once the Dell's were running problem solved with the same users. Users i might add that hated "PeeCee's"
At any rate the point of the post was that taking your single situation and applying it across the board is a bad idea. |
