Latency

Latency should also be mentioned here, as it is a large piece of the Rev A upgrade. It should drop to below 100ms.

Has anyone actually seen a deployment schedule for rev A?

Here's a pic showing the type of latency improvement Rev A brings.

Wow, I'm very impressed. I might replace my current internet connection with this.

How is the stability? We have a Sprint EV-DO card (not Rev A though obviously) and the fluctuations in the service leave a lot to be desired. Its ok for wireless based data, but it could never compare to a real broadband solution like cable or DSL.

Who knows why latencies are so high? 100Ms is much better compared to 200-500ms spikes.

A friend managed to download 165 gigs over VZ and 125 gigs over Sprint on his biz accounts with EVDO.

Unlimited is unlimited.

He called VZ and he told them, "I have 12 cellphones with my biz account. If you cancel my service, I'll go with T-Mobile."

"But, sir, that is a $2400 liquated damage charge."

"So? I pay $5k a month already. What's $2400?"

This guy managed to even negotiate a discount on his 12 cells for his biz with some manager that dropped his bill about $1k a month.

I got the service today. Speeds are 600-1300kps with latecy around 150ms to google.com.

Very impressed. Its my primary service now.

If the average ping is 150 I'm not so impressed, 80-110 would sway me into buying. but maybe it changes with different towers

Are you still on dialup? Many cable connections still get around 100ms pings.

Yup since cable is 2 miles down the road (but it's 20ms pings). And the towers around here are only GSM last I checked.

Once Rev A is launched completely by mid 07' pings will be around 50ms.

I called Sprint today and they said that my area is still PCS, or 144kbps but had a note at the bottom saying service should be EVDO by the end of this year. So looks like it's still a waiting game.
