[Cable] Dallas/Ft Worth Metro Vol I -- Time Warner

The running DWF comcast thread was a great one. Hopefully we can continue it here.

Of all the many gripes I have with TW over Comcast (no espn2hd, no nfltv, limited ondemand, etc), the worst is the overnight quality change of hbohd and shotimehd....the "flicker" is the worst...and Ive verified it with a couple friends across the metroplex. I dont know what causes it but in dark scenes it is annoyingly evident.

The dreaded ad in the guide is gone, thank goodness. Scathing emails seem to have some effect.

Also --

I received a Time Warner Cable catalog in the mail today. Two things are disturbing, from an HDTV perspective -

1. HDNet and HDNet Movies are not listed on the page where they talk about HD.

2. UniversalHD is listed though, and it is not even in the channel lineup. What gives?

I know this doesn't directly affect the Dallas market but it is still interesting:

doesnt make much sense..why not keep each metro area instead of the high cost of switching within texas.

"doesnt make much sense..why not keep each metro area instead of the high cost of switching within texas."

Probably to make the government happy... and to regionalize there systems... (I know that doesn't quiet make sense with the Houston swap but...)

No, we didn't have espn2 HD here in Frisco. As of today we have less service for the same amount of money... Hmm, not a very good first impression TW.

no, we didnt have espn2hd solely because the market was slated for TW takeover, all other comcast markets had/have espn2hd.

I'm headin' for the hills. Ordered Verizon FIOS TV today after it took 92 minutes to report a service outage last night... and 37 more minutes for the guy to check for and alert me to an outage in my area.

Someone mentioned in the old post that he is having problem with ESPN HD channel where you can't pause, rewind and such. I tested it out and confirmed it's not working.

I live in Plano and I am not seeing this problem. I am able to perform all DVR functions on ESPN HD as was the case with Comcast before the transition.

Everyone --

Please go to the "contact us" page on time warner's site and email them that the ad is unacceptable.

A scathing email might be the only way these tools get rid of the ad.

Plano 75024 here

I still have the ad, too. Also, it seems that the quality of the analog channels got a lot worse. They always used to look ugly on my HD TV, but now they're almost unwatchable even on my standard TVs, too. What's going on?

I don't see the ads in the Guide. here i'm in 75025.

I did see the flickers on HBOHD but it was around a week ago..

What i want to see TW do is to get us 2 HBO HDs like they have down in Houston.

Still have the Ad in Irving.

On the Irving TWC site under contact us there is no e-mail listed. They have an online form, but I sent something the other day and never got a reply. It say they will reply in 24 hrs but it is BS.

I went ahead and complained about the Ad...we will see if I get a reply on this one.

Also, Channel 48 (FX) - analog looks like crap. It has very obvious vertical lines throughout. Anyone else in Irving see this?

Not to be an alarmist or anything, but if you are a new TimeWarner cable customer (via the Comcast swap), you might want to check and see how much your bill is going to be. I called in to check on retainment offers, as I am considering making the jump to Dish Network. I mentioned that I had had some really good discounts run out recently, and my bill was considerably higher than it had been...and that I was thinking I've been paying something like $118/mo. between CATV (Digital classic, an HD-DVR, HBO/SHO) and internet (w/leased modem) since those deals ran out. The very nice girl I was working with commented that it looks like it is now more like $154! I asked if it was going up, and she said it was. Wow. Let's just say I was shocked. She worked to find some discounts, etc., and it looks like my bill will now be $124/mo. So *after getting retention offers* my bill is going up $6. Anyway, it appears prices are changing, so if you are a cable customer you might want to check it out.

I took the dump the dish deal right before the Comcast to TWC deal happened. So If they stick to that deal I'll be paying $46 a month for the Gold package with HBO & Starz, HD DVR, HD Channels, etc. This deal is for 12 months with no commitment.

If TWC doesn't stick to that deal I'll leave for Dish in a heartbeat. I really want FIOS, but it isn't available in my area...

I had a similar deal, then it ran out. It just about doubled my bill. I imagine they'll honor the deal you have for the term they promised...

I don't have any DVR functions on ESPN HD. All other channels work fine. Also the digital simulcast channels, 250-253 keep messing up. I get lots of pixels or it's just a black screen. Anybody else?

In regards to discounts and special pricing given by Comcast... I called comcast about 2 weeks ago to ask them if my discounts would roll over to TW as I had 8 months left before they ran out. The rep. assured me that TW is required to honor all agreements that were given by Comcast to their customers. Come to think of it, maybe that was why it was so easy to get discounted packages the last few months...lol Comcast csr's didn't give a crap....lol

The annoying AD in the guide is now gone. I guess they received enough complaints to get rid of it in Irving...

Yap,still got the adv as of yesterday night, Farmers Branch 85244. It's really pissed me off, that adv took out the space of extra channel when browsing. It was just fine for me as the original screen fitted perfectly for 5 hd channels.

TWC, do you know how slow that stupid moto-DVR respond to commands? Browsing programs already like goin tho Fearfactor, 100% hiccups, please don't take extra space off.

Bring on The Fios, i sign for life.
