Re: the aerial view of Irvine...I was travelling through that area a couple of times a month back in '76 and remember how many ground squirrels were in those fields now covered by industrial buildings. There was also a sugar mill that would have been off to the right in the picture.
I was at Tustin and 17th yesterday. What a difference.
Keep working those archives brother.

My first introduction to it was in Capo Beach in 1960, where Palisades Drive dropped down onto PCH. It very well could have been an ORCO thing. |

No_Strings , could you get a current view of that and post it here one of these days? Ask, and ye shall receive usually a smart ass reply

The driveway on the right is for St. Michael's Abbey. There is still a lot of beautiful, undeveloped land in the area ... for now. |

| OK, take 2.

A shot from Live Oak, looking West and featuring an annoyingly red car. Portola Hills has replaced what used to just be a hill. |

 | A Passat with a badge kit. |

jig join:2001-01-05 Hacienda Heights, CA | what the hell is a badge kit, and @RFC: if you head east from sacramento (which is admittedly further north than i was thinking), then yes. |
|
 | Badge kit - those small decorations manufacturers stick on the sheet metal in an effort to distinguish an otherwise nondescript vehicle. Glue a couple of S4 and V8 badges on a Passat and voila, you have a $60k VW. |

Pic 1 is atop the northern ridge of the old Forster Canyon County Dump in San Juan, looking NW over the town. The freeway overcrossing is the one over San Juan Creek. I can't remember if that old water tank is still there, but it was for years and years after this was snapped in June of 1960.
Pic 2 is looking at the NW corner of Orangethorpe and Brookhurst in Fullerton. Notice the Shopping Bag supermarket (bought out by Vons) and the classic fifties Chevron Standard filling station. 1961. -- Religion is the root of all evil.
