 | DING DONG anyone home?! Umm... this is just another tax on the already overtaxed americans....
If the companies didn't have to BUY the spectrum - they might offer the service at a lower rate............
But since they have to buy the spectrum - it means higher fees for the same service..... so just another tax! You don't really think the companies are going to eat this cost, do you?
However, an argument could be made that the companies would charge the same price - whether or not they had to buy the spectrum..... and you are probably right..... oh well! |

| likely the sat. broadband will still be expensive, yes. To those companies (Echostar/DirecTV) it's still just part of the expense... they don't launch a bird for free either...
I think it's going to be costly either way denverco100... heck, look how much sat. internet costs now, it's prohibitive for many many people... they see "ooh, look, $60/month, that's not toooo awful bad to pay for what city folk get!" ...then they see that it costs about $600 for equipment and even MORE per month for a more reliable package (pro/business level service) and don't give it a second thought "..nevermind honey, let's just keep that 22.1kbps dialup we got goin' down at the farm..."
On the other hand, if both companies do this right, the cost could actually be a little cheaper, offer faster service (latency will obviously still be high..) and sign up more new customers. ...That's probably what I'd want to do if I were Charlie Ergan. |
