PC PVR

How do you setup a PVR on your PC? what hardware is required? I think the last tv tuner card i had, i just plugged the coax in and it changed the channels. How is that done with satellite system or digital cable systems? (or even multiple inputs, like dual-tuner or more).

I guess the windows media system comes to mind, I've seen them with dual tuners but couldn't figure out how it can tune the sat boxes automatically.

thanks.

As far as I know, you can't. Since such signals can only be descrambled by the providers STB, you have to have that STB connected - so you have to leave the tuner set to channel 3 then change actual channels on the set-top box.
I have to do it that way in my office. While it's an analog feed, I can't get HBO or SHO without the lame analog box inline.

Only way around this will be a partnership between makers of TV Tuner cards and the cable providers - which I just don't see happening, at least not any time soon.

I would love to be proven wrong on any of the above!

you are correct. Everyone above talking about "this is stupid I could just build my own for so much cheaper" really doesn't know what they are talking about.
