| Play Devil's Advocate For A Second Say the deceased was wronged some how by the RIAA and was entitled to legal recourse. Do you think the family/estate would drop the case after he died? Unfortunately in this day an age, the estate probably would have still gone after the RIAA.
Yes the RIAA was cold in their approach. And yes they could have gone after the living. But like it or not it appears as if the deceased was legally responsible for the acts of his stepson and was in the process of settling with the RIAA. Does him dying suddenly make what his stepson did go away? -- Quis custodiet custodes ipsos?

if someone knows they are going to die they sometimes xfer property and assets over to being strictly in their other half's name and i doubt they could sue him/her as proxy.
though as i say haul them into a jury suit if needed, its pretty common for a jury to side with the little guy and not the big company. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports

| said by cdru:Does him dying suddenly make what his stepson did go away? Moral/ethics/legal issues aside for now, RIAA usually settles for $2K-$3K (I think) vs. $200K worth of bad publicity. Common sense should tell them to just shut up and go away on this one. | |

Those that would quit buying music because of the RIAA's tactics would have long ago quit buying music. This lawsuit, or lack thereof, changes nothing. -- Quis custodiet custodes ipsos?

This lawsuit, or lack thereof, changes nothing. I'm happy your so confident in your opinion, however wrong it may be. Just look at the numbers. Despite massive amounts of P2P usage, record sales have only been marginally affected. Much of the change in sales can be attributed to increased online sale of songs (iTunes et al) as well as decreased disposable income due to higher cost of living (thanks gas companies). Some research has actually found that while units shipped has decreased, over the last few years, the number of sales has increased, indicating better inventory management by stores, not decreased sales due to piracy. -- Quis custodiet custodes ipsos?
