Murdoch dropping back a surprise

I must admit this is surprising. From all the pre-auction hype, it sounded like the DirecTV/Echostar group was going to push hard so they could get heavily into land based wireless. Either they weren't financed well enough to keep bidding, or they are holding back and going to bet big at the end. It is like a poker game. Is Murdoch sandbagging or is he tapped out?

My bet, sandbagging (or is that teabagging? I forget...)

You can't "hold back and bet big at the end"; according to the FCC's rules, if you don't keep bidding, you lose the ability to bid. Wireless DBS's bidding activity has dropped to the point where they're basically out of it.
