Re: War on Terror Some of you are going so far in your criticism that it almost seems you would literally like to see us lose. I hasten to add that this isn't because you are disloyal. It's because you just don't recognize what losing means. Nevertheless, your conduct gives the impression to the enemy that we are divided and weakening. It concerns our friends, and it does great damage to our cause.
For those who don't know the enemy...the enemy are the same ones who would throw you off a building, cut off your hands, cut out your tongue and otherwise murder you just for disagreeing with them. |

For the duration, we are going to have to give up some of the civil rights we have become accustomed to. We need to prepare to lose some of our civil rights temporarily or we will most certainly lose all of them permanently.
And don't worry that it is slippery slope. We gave up plenty of civil rights during WWII, and immediately restored them after the victory and in fact added many more since then.
Do I blame President Bush or President Clinton before him?
No, I blame people like you for blithely assuming we can maintain all of our Political Correctness, and all of our civil rights during this conflict and have a clean, lawful, honorable war. None of those words apply to war. Get them out of your head. |

Sorry that you guys are offended that our intelligence agencies want to listen in on the conversations of terrorists but the world has changed dramatically in the last fifteen years. For some reason, half the country is so blinded by hatred that they can't see how much the world has changed.
The days are long gone where a country lines up on another country's border and declares war. The new method is to attack without notice and attack from within. We can't fight this new kind of warfare using our old methods. We have to adjust our strategies to match theirs. The sad truth of the matter is, we're going to be so caught up in our petty arguments like the "loss" of civil liberties and we'll be attacked again with our pants down.
It wouldn't surprise me if ten of the largest US cities are simultaneously nuked some day. Heck, half of the country probably thinks we deserve it because we're such an evil country with all our nasty corporations and god forbid, our capitalistic ways. |
