t10 join:2003-05-25 Woodbridge, ON | Instead of running around with arms flailing in the air, someone on optimax should confirm if the caps are enforced or not.
Regular HSE is NOT capless as many claim, it has a cap, sympatico simply chooses not to enforce the caps. Example:
Considering many paid $62.xx taxes in for HSE Ultra sometime ago for 5mbit service (ok ok 4.19mbit), 70 does not sound like a huge rip-off for 10/1 service. Yes everyone wants direct fiber to the brain connection, and for 45 cents a year at that, but you need to be realistic, and not expect miracles from companies that exist to make money, and not do us favours. -- Sympatico Ultra + Rogers Extreme Dual WANage |

Those "limits" are still there on HSE & HSE Ultra from when Bell had caps, 10GB on HSE and 20GB on Ultra. Its been three years since Bell abolished caps on those services, and yet the self care bandwidth meter does not reflect that. -- ·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´ |

 | reply to cfser Optimax has a cap, just like a highway has a speed limit. Every time you speed you take the chance of getting a ticket. If you want optimax and want to go over your caps you take the chance having to pay.
I never went over the caps back when HSE/Ultra had them so I don't know how strictly it was enforced but I would assume there going to use the same system or something similar. |

Optimax has a speed limit, 10 or 16mbps. Just like high ways have a 100km/h speed limit, but highways do not limit you to drive on them for only 100KM. You can drive in a huge 3000km circle on the highway, if you want and no one will stop you.
You can use the full speed of Optimax, provided you don't exceed 75GB. That's like having a 100 km/h speed limit on a road that is only a block long. |

Optimax is offered from remote CO's in the neighborhood. |

The point is the cap is too low for such a high price. |

 | reply to GI Suck Quit comparing isp limitations to cars because that is even more retarded. You see with cars, everone wants somthing new and there is no limit.
However with dsl you live in the MINORITY.Most people want fast dl but don't use 300-1000 gigs like u might do a month. For example I'm planning to get this new service yet I like most average user only use very little a month but considering im sharing with my sister then its a great service. |
|
 | reply to cfser I just called the number to see if the service was available in my area. The woman answered in french but was then more then happy to speak in english.
I asked if the service was available in my area, which it's not (I wasn't expecting any miracles, I live 50km north of the city). I also asked about being capped. She said no.....kinda weird.
Also, I'm on UHSE, I've gone over 180GB throughput/month many times and I've never been contacted by BCE. |

That is, until the CRTC forces Bell to provide unrestricted access to OPIs and RSLAM sites so that Primus can either install their own RSLAMs on the same piece of concrete, or use Bell's. 1 edit | reply to frank2029 quote: wow, i called that number and i have gotten the best customer service EVER. He Knew english, He Knew what the hell he was talking about and it just felt good by someone actually telling you the truth from tech support.
He told me pretty much all of montreal island has it and only one part of Toronto has it which is called Leeway? or Leeside? im not sure if that was it. and its also to see how people like it. its more of a test area. also he said tons and tons of people are calling about it. and he was told that bell WILL eventually be the fastest ISP in Canada in the near future and he is expected to see everyone upgraded in Toronto within 6months to one year. also he said that u have to have a line capable of having 7Mbit b4 they even consider upgrading you.
Hmm. Keeping that promise is going to be hard.
In Regina and Saskatoon, Sasktel is going to offer at least 35 mbps before Christmas and 55-60 mbps by the end of next year. According to a TSR, the technology they are using is VDSL2+ and even though its theoretical bandwidth capacity is symmetrical, they are opting for 5-10 mbps upstream only. No complaints here though. They promise to offer 80+ mbps FTTH by 2011/2012.
Unfortunately, Shaw is Saskatoon's (where I live) sole cable operator and it doesn't seem like Shaw will do anything to rival Sasktel's surge. On the other hand, Regina is served by Accesscomm cable company and they are keeping up with Sasktel. In fact, they are launching 30-40 mbps cable before next year and some of those results can sporadically be seen on BBR archive.
The best thing about Sasktel and Accesscomm is, there is no bandwidth cap. No ports are blocked, no BT shaping, no throttling, no newsgroup capping. I doubt it will stay this way though.
Further west, like Bell, Telus is rolling out ADSL2+ and it's foolish to believe Shaw (who are already testing out their DOCSIS 3.0) will not top that. |

ChainzzAka Snippy join:2004-07-26 Sarnia, ON | DOCSIS 3.0 is far from being launched, hasnt even been developed yet! |

 | Yeah, Shaw isn't certainly testing DOCSIS 3.0 - there's no equipment for it yet. They expect it'll be 2008-2009 before it's ready to roll. |
