Callcentric accesses the sipbroker by dialing **275 followed by *(Sipnumber)

I have "**275*x." in the digit map but pressing * consecutively produces busy tones immediately.

Velund : Already tried to modify tested working PAP2v2 xml provision file for this beastie... No luck.

Turned on debug level of syslog, and found that each registration attempt is ended up with following "promising" record:

voice: 0000048120 - SSMU: SIP stack destructed.

Looks like I will set them aside for a while... Spent too much time playing with this wonderful little toy. ;) Now need to play with some other toys for some time to make my employer a bit more happy. ;)

That happens to me when I tried to interface the serial console ports between my Fonera WiFi router and a Motorola VT-1005. No matter what I did, it wouldn't stop and went ahead to booting the firmware. ;)

Just wonder, doesn't give you a message "Press escape to..." ? If yes, maybe the hyperterminal doesn't send properly ESC and you may need to check the settings (38400, 8, N, 1)

Probably. I found out how to build the cable by searching for JTAG, but that doesn't mean the cable I actually built was a JTAG. It's whatever you use to connect to the serial port inside the VTA box.

Using "squashfs-tools.tar.bz2" (lzma version) was able to unsqashfs the filesystem.
Made a few alterations (removed login for serial console) squashed and built and appears to be working ! except no longer appear to be able to upgrade via GUI ( have to tftp from boot console )

anon : I've seen several posts on here about the VTA only booting from IMAGE_B which means you have to destroy you current firmware and config when you want to upgrade/downgrade. I've found a way to boot from either image. Its as follows...

First you need to connect to the console using a JTAG lead and get to the boot prompt. If you execute printenv you will see the following definitions:

BOOTCFG_A m:f:"IMAGE_A"
IMAGE_A 0x90040000,0x90400000
CONFIG_A 0x90400000,0x90420000
BOOTCFG_B m:f:"IMAGE_B"
IMAGE_B 0x90440000,0x90800000
CONFIG_B 0x90420000,0x90440000
BOOTCFG m:f:"IMAGE_B"

On mine the BOOTCFG is read only but the first thing you could try is altering this to either m:f:"IMAGE_A" or m:f:"IMAGE_B" and that might work for you. If it doesn't then all you have to do is swap the the definitions for the A and B images and configs. With the above settings it would mean executing the following commands

setenv IMAGE_A 0x90440000,0x90800000
setenv CONFIG_A 0x90420000,0x90440000
setenv IMAGE_B 0x90040000,0x90400000
setenv CONFIG_B 0x90400000,0x90420000

Now, when you boot it will boot the other image.

This is my problem. I've tried everything I've read in the thread and cannot find a way to downgrade the firmware. It currently has VTA-11.4.1-r060815-1.00.09-r070401.img installed.

I've just ordered a JTAG lead, but this will take 10 days to arrive so in the mean time I'm hoping someone finds a way to hack my version of the firmware.

I had the same problem. But I was able to downgrade the firmware using a serial console (see the previous page for more info). You have to make or buy a MAX232 circuit, but this is fairly easy; you can build it in an hour with any soldering iron if you can find the parts at a local electronics retailer. I followed these nice instructions.

As was explained to me, and as was the case, there are two firmware slots on these devices, A and B. Mine, like yours, was booting and using image B while the web interface only appears to update image A. Updating B from the bootloader (using the serial cable) worked and got me downgraded finally.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to tell the device to boot image A, which would be the easier way out. You can set the default to image A in the bootloader, but it resets it to B on reboot.

As mazilo said, you probably can't use CYT with the newer firmwares, but that's not the end of the story by any means.

You can downgrade your firmware to 11.4.0-r060331-1.00.07-r060418.img and unlock it with CYT from there.

You don't necessarily need the CYT tool either, though; it just automates the process. You can still do the steps manually, which I did, and get your device unlocked.

In theory, the process is fairly simple. But there isn't complete consistency between all the devices, even with the same firmware versions. Some have blank passwords, some use 'tivonpw'. Some require a reset to factory defaults, some don't. Some won't easily let you reset to factory defaults, others will.

I'm not sure what difficulties you'll have by failing to get the device provisioned by Vonage first, but I think you won't be able to determine what password to use to get to the web interface (which is a critical step).

Basically, I think you can unlock it in one way or another using the information in this thread. Just ask if you get stuck somewhere, but try to go through the entire thread first as the answer is probably there (however daunting the size is).

I use the RC4 program to decode and re-encode the files. I got it here:

You use the program from a command prompt:
rc4 YourKey tiYOURMAC.xml output.xml

You need to get into the Admin/Admin login to obtain the unique key for your device - it's a LONG key - 256 bits encoded into 64 hex characters. This is why you need to break into the "Support" account and down-rev your firmware first. Once you downrev your firmware you can use the CYT unlocker as is explained early on in this long thread. Once you use the CYT unlocker you log into the device's web console as Admin/Admin and can view the "provision" page -- on that page on the "default" column is a box with that ever so long and ever so important key. Once you've got the key and have it saved somewhere, you are ready to tftp Vonage's encrypted provision file (which you find the TFTP URL from the provision page as well), use RC4 with the long key to decrypt it, and now you know your routers "default" Admin login for when it's unlocked, as well as you have a base provision file to start working from.

Hope that helps - it still seems to be a bit of "black magic and guesswork" to get the new firmware to break and let you in. Some people have good luck - others not so much. I've confirmed that my method outlined in the earlier post worked on both a VTA-VR and a VTA-CV (Canadian version) - I don't have a UK version to test on.

anon : It took me like 10 hours but I finally got it to work with my callcentric.com account, thanks to all the helpful posts in this thread. Here's what I did:

1)Downgraded to 1.00.07 firmware

2)Unlocked using cyt3.5 (cyt3.9c and cyt46 did NOT work for me)

3)Ran tftpd on my computer, while changing the appropriate settings through the device's web-interface, so that it would download + provision my XML file.

2)After hours of trial-and-error, finally got it to work with the attached XML file (if you have callcentric, just replace "yourpass" and "yourusername" values)

Also, from my own experience, I can say that even if your XML file is perfect, it still may not work until you "re-unlock" (using cyt35) and reboot the device. So if you're stuck, that's one thing you wanna make sure you do. There's a lot of trial-and-error involved in getting the device to authenticate via SIP. In my case, the setting that was messing up everything was "CID_NUMBER", which I now realize has to be set to my SIP account's username.

I have read through this forum, and tried a few different solutions, but I cannot get my VTA to connect to 2 lines on my asterisk server.

I am running the hacked v8 firmware.

If i disable either line, the other one works perfectly, but both will not register together. The box will register 1 line to my asterisk server, and 1 to sipgate - it just will not register 2 lines to my asterisk server.

Any ideas?

1. VTA call HT, when HT pick up, VTA became silence, and HT only can hear busy signal;
2. HT call VTA, when VTA pick up, I got big noise from both of their earphone, no human voice at all.

Do your guys know why that happen? codec not match? or some else?

Hi there, when entering the parameters above in a SSH terminal window. How do you get the parameters to be set on the box. On the device (loaded with the modded 1.08 FW), it has an option to factory reset - but has 2 options Provisioned and Non-Provisioned Parameters - which should I choose or is there another method to factory reset the device

Mine is now and I think is fine for all UK numbers. The change that means the most though will be x.T as this means any numeric number will be terminated after the timeout (approx 2 seconds)

Then I tried again to set my own factory settings, but the only one that works is the Admin password, and that is from the web interface only (still doesn't work from SSH). I tried setting everything to default settings and still mine remain in /proc/ticfg/env and the corresponding webpage. I will see how it is in 24hrs as prior to trying this, it would reset to some defaults and my VoIP settings would be lost.

I formated both IMAGE_A + B and CONFIG_A + B. Then tftp'ed the firmware to IMAGE_A + B under serial console, Then did the SSH bit after that.

To check which image the box is booting from type either:

cat /proc/ticfg/env or printenv

Cant remember which without doing it! As long as you flash IMAGE_A + B under the serial console, it doesnt matter anyway, they will both be NA modded firmware :D

Thanks for the info, I'll try it. Did you run those commands at the boot loader prompt or after the box has booted up ?
From my understanding, the adapter keeps 2 versions of the firmware (and configuration). How can I tell which is the one in use ? And how can I make both the same ?

I had exactly that same problem when i changed my password!

The only way i got it to work was to use the serial console and the command fmt CONFIG_A if my memory is correct then fmt CONFIG_B

That cleared the config files, I then used the SSH commands mentioned again to set the NEW_ADMIN_PWD and typed reset.

When the box came back to life SSH was all good with my password!!!

Did you notice CYT unlocker requires a parameter, i.e. DLINK, on its command line to use for a VTA-VR? You may also want to try with different version of CYT to unlock your VTA-VR.

I bought a Vonage D-Link VTA-UV today and cant understand whats going on! I was just trying to find a phone adapter and this was the only available in Portsmouth-UK. The problem is as you can imagine that it is locked.

And I have no idea about how to unlock it and only know very basic staff in programming and languages.

Please someone tell me what to do and how... I have read almost everything in here but still cant understand anything. I tried to use the cyt4.6 but it starts the xml change but never ends.

Then it is strange, my VTA would swallow any XML (I added several fields).

So here is what I would do:
(I assume that you set-up the tftp server and you see it uploading the file succesfully, etc.)

first take the vonage XML, decrypt it, do not modify it and push it to the box, if it does not accept it then you have a problem with your box

next (if the original provisioning is taken by the box) change the original provisionig file to add a few more fields (only what you truly need, do not add all the things that were discussed in the forum). If it is accepted then you are don, if not accepted, then you identified the problem and take them one by one and find which one is making the file non-valid.

I bet that you have the new firmware. Please note that the new firmware is checking whether the XML is in the Vonage "format" and if not it does not accept it. Just downgrade to 1007 and you can provision it without any problems, or use the decrypted one without adding new XML fields (but this could bring an issue with echo cancellation). I hope this helps.

In the case of the D-Link VTA, most hacking has been done thru the serial (rs232) port.

One thing I am not finding on the ADMIN tab (provision page) is the lack of the CRYPT KEY...

If you SSH into your box, you can find the 'raw' CRYPT_KEY by typing:
cat /proc/ticfg/env

But, it is not the actual key to use while decrypting the XML file... I am going to take a guess and say that the ADMIN_PWD hash is somehow formulated into the 'raw' key.. I have not verified this, but I can tell you that the key found from ssh'ing into the VTA does not decrypt the XML for the box.

Anyone already find this and know the proper formula to generate your RC4 key from the 'raw' key (found in /proc/ticfg/env) ?

It is weird. My line 2 actually failed first, then it registered successfully.
After it was powered on, only line 2, ethernet and power lights are on. However, if I lift the phone off hook on line 1 for a second, it becomes solid green there after.

Now I am confused too. I don't know what I did made it work, and I don't want to change nothing because I am afraid it won't work after that. I have another one still in the box. I will try to do the same thing on that one tomorrow to see if I can find out what actually makes it work.

I got it working by register Line 1 and 2 with two different IP addressess (I configured my asterisk server with two IPs).

By the way, do you have a phone number come "in" your Asterisk? If you do, would you mind let me know which company you are using? I live in same area and I need a 604 number so I can get local calls in.

If you have a Maxim3232 chip, you can build this cable to interface with your device to de-brick. You can also build this unbuffered JTAG cable and perhaps use it to interface your device, too.

hoolahoous : I had tough time updating to NAa file. Most of the times it would just revert back to 7. Eventually it took 8 and it stuck. After than when I added enteries to env file and did a reset, got the dreaded 3 blinks and off..
i do not have access to serial cable and do not wish to spend money to revive this free after rebate box..
i hope someone figures out a way to revive it from ethernet or by shorting some pins..

just a caution to everyone, if you have unlocked boxes with 7 version, I would advice you to wait until we learn how to make it foolproof..

I can see the bootloader in hyperterminal when I power the VTA... Just for others here's the settings I used that worked for me:

DLINK VTA-UV
pin 1 ... TX
pin 2 ... GND
pin 3 ... 3.3v
pin 4 ... n/a
pin 5 ... RX

38400, 8, N, 1, flow control: Xon/Xoff

I then use these commands in hyperterminal:
setenv IPA 192.168.1.119
fmt IMAGE_A
tftp -i 192.168.1.123 new_firmware.bin IMAGE_A

This appears to work great, once I use the fmt IMAGE_A command you get the ..... scroll across screen until it's done then I use the tftp -i 192.168.1.123 new_firmware.bin IMAGE_A and again get the ..... scroll across the screen and can see that my tftp server is sending the file, this all goes well, no errors. I then do exactly the same again but for IMAGE_B. Then I reboot the VTA and get this come up in hyperterminal:

Basic POST completed... Success.
Last reset cause: Hardware reset (Power-on reset)

PSPBoot1.3 rev: 1.3.8.1602
(c) Copyright 2002-2005 Texas Instruments, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

So it appears even though I've wrote this new firmware it's not stored on the VTA (I know the image im writing to be a working one btw). Is there some kind of save or write command I should be doing after its wrote the firmware via the tftp server to make sure it saves the settings on reboot or something? :S After getting this far when I though all was lost I'd love to get this going again now, thanks for your help once again :)

WYCF : I try to start over so I downgraded to 07 and now I couldn't login at all. I tried Admin/Admin(this works before), admin/admin, Support/tivonpw. Support/user, none of them worked.

I also tried hard reset and still couldn't log in to the web GUI. :huh:

Lavaman5 : Many thanks for that mate, exactly the info I was looking for, unfortunatly it doesn't look like it'll work for me, have a couple of max232 interfaces I've used in the past I know to be working (on modems mainly) but connected up (checked and double checked all connections) and in hyperterminal it just does nothing as the powers applied to the VTA...

Now you've given me the links to how to do this I realise this it more or less exactly the same way I've flashed new firmwares to modems before so I'm fairly sure I've done it all correctly, one VTA for the scrap heap maybe? :( Thanks for the info and links though anyway...

rcilink : You have a couple options to look at:

1. If you did not change the default IPA setting, there is a good chance your VTA IP is 192.168.15.80 during the 'bootloader'. I have read on another forum that some suggest you can try setting your PC to 192.168.15.88 and tftp into the VTA a valid firmware (renamed as code.bin). The few times I tried this, it did not work.

2. If you have a serial cable (one with MAX232 type chip to convert voltages, etc.), you can hook directly into the bootloader and load firmware into the VTA easily. Using this method, you will need to set IPA to a valid address on your network (example: 192.168.0.125 if your network is 192.168.0.x) and you will need a TFTP server running on your network. Then, using this serial cable, you can connect into the VTA, tell it to grab the firmware from your TFTP and load it into the IMAGE_A or IMAGE_B location. You may need to load both if it is that munged.

For more information, take a look at this link (that page talks of the Linksys device. It is the same bootloader...) and you will notice towards the bottom some details explaining the steps for tftp, etc.

For the proper serial pinout, have a look at this thread.

If you don't have the serial cable...

•Do not hook it directly to your PC serial port! It can ruin the VTA instantly!

Lavaman5 : In the course of flashing and re-flashing of firmwares many times I've managed to knacker my VTA-UV so now when power is plugged in all you get is the power led very breifly flash red followed by 3 flashes of green, then nothing, all leds off and no physical signs of life.

Also if I go to the GUI page this no longer comes up, so im assuming there's been an error in flashing a firmware somewhere along the lines leaving the VTA with no or a bad flashed firmware as it stands?

The one sign of life is when it's plugged into my router the led on the router 'sees' it as plugged in and if I go into the routers page it shows it as connected and gives me the ip address. So my question, how do I go about trying to flash the firmware using the serial method as has been mentioned a couple of times on this thread? Would this be worth me trying? I've had a look around but so far come unstuck on how to go about this, at least with the VTA-UV (I'm assuming it being the UK version won't make much difference anyway?). Nothing to loose, it's useless as it is so if someone could point me in the direction I'd like to give this serial firmware flashing a go....

jwx213 : This Firmware (NA2a) appears to have fixed the issues i was having getting the SIP settings for line 1 and 2 to save after using SSH to customize my Admin password.

It did however take 3 factory resets with "Provisioned Parameters" ticked to get it to go.

Yes. I've also tried to edit the settings via my XML file. I seem to be a little further ahead now that I can see the logs but still can't seem to register successfully.

I have tried the 1.00.08-NA from rapidshare on my box. If you login as "Support" or "user", you can not get changes to save for Provision info and/or SIP info.

You must login as Admin to make changes and save them. If you did not set the environment stuff as described above, your 'Admin' login will have no password (leave it blank).

The two files (firmware 108 from vonage and Tabor's) are definitely different. The big difference would be the possibility to change the fields in the HTML mode (I have admin for my box and when in 1008 mode you see a lot of new fields but the changes do not save, so you need to do some provisioning to set them)

I have "heard" that tabor's file is the one to go, although I did not have tme to check it yet. I will let you guys know if that's true or not once I do the checking.

LOL. This is a modded v1.0.8 firmware and it doesn't say anything about -NA. The only way to find out is to perform a factory reset to see if it will phone home. If it does, then your unit isn't an -NA and will get relocked!

Does the *.bin load the same as the *.img?

DISCLAIMER: This 'guide', with all contents in this post, is only to be used by someone owning a D-Link VTA type device. Attempting to use this method on your device will remove any connection to its current VoISP provider! If you have an active voice subscription, you should stay away from these kinds of things! By attempting anything you see here, you are accepting full responsibility! That means if you turn your device into a brick, you are accepting it and not hold anyone but yourself responsible.

If you are not comfortable doing anything posted here, or do not wish to accept this responsibility, then either find someone who can do the job for you, or return the device to the store!

The new firmware version 1.00.08 for the VTA device offers many additional VoIP SIP settings, similar to a Linksys RTP300/WRTP54G or PAP2 v2.0.

Some things to point out:

The firmware(VTA-11.4.0-r060331-1.00.08-r061127.img) has several changes under the covers. Some are:
•Voice settings (including provision) can only be changed if Admin is logged-in.
•Server-side scripting prevents html contents of voice html pages for non-Admin users.
•A ton of additional SIP settings have been added! Less need for XML provisioning now.

Ok, so now the question everyone who cares to re-use this device wants to know..

Q: Can this device (running 1.00.08) be unlocked ?

A: CYT 4.6 and older will NOT unlock this version.

But... here's an alternate method to unlock this one!

For this method, you will need: vta-1.00.08-NA.bin

1. Login to your device with the Support account.

2. Click on the Tech Support tab.

3. Click the [BROWSE] button and point to the vta-1.00.08-NA.bin firmware.

4. Click the [APPLY] button to begin the firmware upgrade.

5. Let the firmware upgrade complete. It does not show a very good status, so just let it sit there-- it will eventually refresh with "Successful" and reboot. (Don't do anything-- be patient!!)

* It is hard to tell if this upgrade loaded-up. The VTA device holds two copies of firmware in the flash, so you may still be running the prior version! If this happens, you can either try to re-load the firmware using the web interface or load the firmware using the serial console cable (via tftp). The serial console option is not covered in this guide.

6. Once rebooted, login as Admin. Try leaving the 'password' field blank.

7. Perform a factory reset to re-sync the device and clear any fragments of information in the device.

8. Presto! You now have a completely unlocked device!

Some notes about the new firmware (1.00.08-NA):

With this firmware, you can 'set' some defaults for the device to use as a 'factory config'. That means, the settings will remain across factory resets! To do this, you should have a good understanding of using ssh.

Here's the settings and what they mean:

PROV_ACTIVE..... 0 = off and 1 = on
PROFILEURL...... tftp://yourserver.com (can be http or tftp)
IMAGEURL........ tftp://yourserver.com/firmware
NEW_HASH_DIR.... zxWjdERjD (the subdir for profile URL)
NEW_CRYPT_KEY... AABBCCDD (rc4 crypt key)
NEW_ADMIN_PWD... AjeXChezCe1 (passwd hash)
NEW_USER_PWD.... AjeXChezCe1 (passwd hash)
NEW_DNS1........ 192.168.1.1 First DNS server
NEW_DNS2........ 192.168.1.1 Secnd DNS server

The values shown above are examples! You can put values that work for your network.

Note: If you set the NEW_ADMIN_PWD and NEW_USER_PWD values, you must set it to a unix passwd hash! If you mess this up, you risk locking yourself out of the device!

NOTE: The first time this 1.00.08-NA firmware is loaded, none of these will be set! That means the Admin password is blank (no password set), and the Support password is also not set! If you never set these settings, you should keep your VTA behind a router or firewall for your protection.

To set these:

1. Login to your VTA using a SSH client. If you do not know the Admin passwd, you may need to set these while using the 1.00.07 firmware (after CYT unlock).
2. At the bash shell prompt (#), type:

echo "PROV_ACTIVE 1">>/proc/ticfg/env

3. repeat step two, just replace the 'variable' name and value.
4. After you set all the variables, you must factory reset to get them to load!

* These values will remain in your device! When done, you can upgrade firmware or factory reset- and the 1.00.08-NA firmware will read these values. You can use remote XML provisioning to change these values after the device is installed.

oommf : VTA-VR may work with Vbuzzer. The trick is that you need to sign up a new account start with abcd** (* is the number 0-9), since the VTA-VR can recongnize the first four letters a,b,c, and d as phone number. At least, the incoming call is working.

cure9 : NB: You should not put two FWD accounts on the Dlink VTA-VA. And in any case you should not attempt to use the two FWD accounts on one unit to verify that you have a working setup. Doing so will probably cut your internet connection and will almost certainly crash your VTA-VA as well as give you a false negative. Calling yourself on your own number is prone to produce like results. Using two seperate units with two seperate accounts behind the same router is untested. Using a soft(ware)phone (xten v2 (excellent) or xten v3 (can't recommend it so far)) with a different account works and is useful for testing.

A working set up should do the following:

1) Dial out to FWD numbers: eg. 613 (echo test)
2) Dial out to 800 numbers: eg. 1800 FREE 411
3) Should receive calls from other FWD numbers: using your softphone and a second account, logining into your account (my.fwd @ freeworlddialup.com) and using the Call Me feature, or having a friend with FWD assist you.
4) Receive regular dial up calls (using your old phone on the wall) via ipkalls.com

My working set up follows (please note that the XML can't be edited with Notepad, get XML Notepad):

settings\dsn1 192.168.1.1 (or your router if otherwise, perhaps your static IP if you have one)

1) The dial plan could perhaps be improved. 800 880 881 and other free numbers must be dialed preceded with an * (eg. *1800FREE411); it will dial foreign free numbers if you can find them (eg. *33 xx xx xx xx); it can also dial with ** a number of any length which is useful for peer networking within the voip community.
2) Although the RTP start and end ports work, perhaps they should both be 8002. In any case, using 8000 to 8020 gave some trouble or maybe that was a mistaken dsn1 address (both changes were made at once).
3) There might be a way of making two FWD lines live happily together, but I will not be the one to find it.
4) Please update this (copy it and make changes with explanations) and once it is well received by all, a new thread should be created for it so people don't have to wade through 25 pages to find it.

gizmoguy01 : I've spent the last week trying to get this to work with my new babytel service. I've managed to unlock and decrypt my XML. I have installed and can update the xml via tftp32 daemon and have no trouble editing the xml.

None of the combination of settings that I've tried seem to do the trick. I've read and searched everywhere that I can think of. I've attached my latest xml with my identifying info XXXXXX'd out.

Has anyone gotten this to work with babytel? After writing to them, they tell me that they use standard SIP settings. I've also managed to use the Xten softphone with their settings and it works just fine for incoming and outgoing calls.

Here's what they sent me:

Sip proxy: sip.babytel.ca:5060
Outbound proxy*: nat.babytel.ca:5065

DLink VTA-VR firmware replacement

jasit : With firmware changes that you meantioned to run the linksys firmware, would the default vonage settings be gone for good? Would the vta become an unlocked device?

I kinda need to do things in baby steps but I am interested in how you put the new firmware on the vta box as I have 6 of them and they are now starting to collect a layer of dust. Sacraficing one or two of them wouldn't be a problem.

Found this:

if you login as Support with no password, it will let you login. Once in, do the firmware upgrade and load the 1.00.07 firmware. Once that is loaded, you can use CYT to unlock the voice part.

Note: if the device has been provisioned by vonage, the Support password should be tivonpw.

rcilink : Yup, that is correct. The D-Link VTA with firmware VTA-11.4.0-r060331-1.00.08-r061127 does not work with any release of CYT (version 4.6 or older).

They patched part of the firmware.

Research is now being done on this version to determine what options are available.

For now, if you are loaded with the new firmware, do this:

1. web-login as Support (pw=tivonpw)
2. downgrade the firmware to VTA-11.4.0-r060331-1.00.07-r060418.img
3. Don't allow VTA to talk to Internet.
4. Run CYT and unlock device.

Hopefully, soon we'll have good news to report. For now, be safe and avoid the .08 (new firmware) if possible.

If you are having the thing auto-reset, do this:

1. setup a TFTP server (nice use of that linux box you have)
2. put a copy of the XML file there and rename it to ti00000000.xml (000's = MAC of your VTA)
3. in provision page, clear path so it is blank
4. in provision page, put tftp://your-ip-of-your-server
5. change the timer to 360000 (for both image and XML)

So why in the world would one want to upgrade the firmware as the CYT no longer works for this firmware as well as the provisioning through the tftpd server (probably the XML file needs to be in a stricter format)

Now it displays in the right corner

CYT 3.5 is not working anymore, I will let you guys know about other CYT versions, but I assume that they won't work either...

Anybody else having the same issues, fixes, etc?

So for the new boxes I would STRONGLY suggest doing the unlock procedure BEFORE connecting the box to the net.

I thought stanaphone to stanaphone would let me dial out atleast. I tried with both the other person's Stana-in number as well as the account number. The digit-map looks like it should support both Stana account number as well as US like phone numbers, any help? Thanks

CID_NUMBER xxxxxxx (the number that the second line is providing) I would leave it blank if I would not use the second port.

This appears to be an issue with only certain boxes, try setting the provision url as http: //127.0.0.1 (which is the default after unlock), then update the poll interval to 900000, and leave the "Image download Retry" as empty.

Thanks a lot pram for the reply, the funny thing is that my box was happy unlocked for about a week until I just swapped the port 1 with port 2 settings (the ppl from telefonip had problems with their server, I did not hear about it until later, so I wanted to see whether the port will do a difference).

The issue is that anything you change it takes the damn 9 hours up until you see whether it is fixing the problem or not. If anybody knows of a way to check whether a box will revert to the unlocked state I would appreciate greatly the info. Of course I will post my findings in the forum once I find the faulty config field.

pram : hacker - the vonage DNS should be your dns entry(not the ip for stana).if you cannot find it by ipconfig/all, try to locate this on your router admin pages.

Anyways, i just thought id attach a txt file that is basically the guts from /var/tmp/voice_config

It shows all of the tags that can be used in the XML when provisioning, so if you think you need to change something thats not there.... It should be in here!

Anyway, hope its of use for reference for anyone struggling to get into the voice_config file in ssh etc.

Let me know if anyone finds anything useful!

Here is what I did ...
Before uploading the xml file to tftp server the ti-YOUR-DEVICE-MAC-ADDR.xml file was encrypted with the same key I have on my default Vonage config

Log-on as user/user
"http://Your-VTA-IP-U-GOT-FROM-DHCP/cgi-bin/webcm?getpage=../html/advanced/adv_provision.htm"

get the Encryption Key from the Default section
on my case 324F5858..... I will guess you can use any HEX sting you want here as a key

encrypt your file

I've created the VTA directory in the root of the FTP server

logout and then login again user/user and do a Save and Reboot.

In the tftp server if you have a session with
tail -f /var/log/messages
you should see the tftp hit

try again the »Your-VTA-IP-U-GOT-FROM-DHCP and try to log on as Admin using the password set in the tixxxxxx.xml.

If something is wrong the VTA will reset back to default profile and will try to contact Vonage.

MY NSLU2 Internal IP is 192.168.1.110 and it's hosting both the Asterisk and tftp servers. Change that IP with the IP of your tftp server.

DNS info I got it from my provider (I looked into my router settings)

For SIP IP (in the xml) I used my public IP of my router and I did a port forwarding (5060 TCP&UDP and 10000 to 20000 UDP only) to my Asterisk server (192.168.1.110)

Unlocked my vta in seconds, provisioned with sipphone in about an hour (just need to figure out what settings were needed), and finally solved that nasty echo my friends were getting when I called.

I got this vta for $10 at a local FutureShop. I already have a vt2442 with vonage as my primary line and now a second line with Sipphone for almost nothing.

Not to mention a great experience on learning how to hack these little buggers. I'm sure I'll be tweaking that xml for weeks to come now that I successfully decoded vonage's default xml. A lot of interesting settings in there ;)

I have had all my VTA,pap2v2 and Moto2442 configured with 2 lines with no issues. This is how I could get calls to line2 ring line1 by making the CID number the same. Voipcheap/stunt family does not care about the CID number field (while other do) and work with any number in them, and hence I have it on line 1, so I can configure other services that require the userid in the CID number field and use the same number in line1.

What you describe may be an issue only when you try to connect to Asterisk, as most reports of that issue are only when people try to connect it to asterisk and I do not have mine connected to asterisk.

anon : I have DLink VTA-VR (from microcenter) and have configured line1 for stanaphone and line2 for sipnumber. Both work fine in both incoming and outgoing (although I never could get the 2nd line to ring on the first one by setting callerid)

Only difference is I configured the device using my XML and not web interface. Couple of quirks though
PROXY_FQDN is the real proxy (like proxy.sipnumber.net) which the device connects to. REG_FQDN is the SIP domain/realm, which is sipnumber.net. In case of stanaphone, both are sip.stanaphone.net. In case of voicestick, it is the IP address for the first and i2telecom.com for the later. Both lines are configured for port 5060

Problem is, voicestick needs to be the the first in the chain from the modem, doesnt work behind a router when other SIP devices are also connecting

I don't think VTA-VR firmware has any support for STUN options. Anyway, I haven't done this; however, you may have to use serial-console cable to re-flash your PAP2v2 with its firmware.

timic : I used cyt3.5 to unlock my VTA-VR. I got the Admin login without problem. But when I can not download my tiMAC.xml file from vonage using the following command:
tftp -i ti.tftp.vonage.net GET /UHGxxx/ti0015E9BCxxxx.xml
It showed on screen "Timeout occured". How to solve this problem and download the xml file? Thanks a lot!

that did not work, the LED is still flashing. I am able to make/receive calls using stanaphone.

For me one time I got dial tone and couldn't dial out or dial in other stanaphone no. Not able to receive calls from mobile phone. After that I did a power recycle, not I get busy tone. And the LED keeps blinking.

I successfully unlocked WRT54GP2 which has good interface, this device sucks, the UI doesn't give any clue on what is the issue. And I am stuck :-(

please folks, give me a hand. I'm starting to lose my hair over this. I've got 2 D-link VTA adapters. I was successful in unlocking them. I also see solid green line2 most of the time. sometimes one adapter's line would blink.
I'm trying to use Stanaphone internal numbers ( 08xxxxxx ).
when I pick up the phones, I hear dial tone, and after composing the other number ( 08xxxxx ), I get a busy signal.
I have been googling all over the place, no fix yet. I tried all kind of DIAL_MAP and still no luck.

I also left DIAL_IN_PLAR to the default 666.

pram : Thanks sumdum, you got me going again with the echo issue, and thanks to rodenti for showing me the trick to browse through the files of the system via the browser.

I added an entry to the tiMAC.xml file and got the value set in the system

under the PORT_1_CONFIG and PORT_2_CONFIG of your timac.xml, add

and make your system get the new tiMac.xml, and you should be done.
This did get rid of the echo..

you can look at the file /var/tmp/voice_config that stores your current config , and it has a lot of entries that are not in the original xml, but if you add those to your timac.xml, they get modified here.

I did add a few more that really controls the volume

akoei : It is no hard to upload by TFTP, but we usually just make some small changes, but keep a tftp service. Changing from SSH is mostly like changing from web, much easy and quick.

FYI, I have had the VTA-UV, an Asterisk server and the X-lite softphone all sucessfully connected to sipgate (in the UK) and the online/offline indicator has never changed from offline so I wouldn't put too much trust in that when debugging. Could be a NAT issue that blocks it seeing what it needs to see but both incoming and outgoing calls work for me regardless.

I suspect the D-Link's dial plan follows Billon's dial plan rules.

You need to put a "T" at the end of the pattern.

eg:

it is same as in vta-vr, you can modify the current server address from the provisioning page (http ://pap2ip/Provision.html), and it still has the vonage address as default values. But I do not know how to get rid of vonage traces..

You guys are awesome. At first, I could only call Canada and US. I only got busy tone when I was calling outside NA. Afterwards, I edited the DIAL_IN_PLAR in xml from BLANK to the same code as in Digit_Map:

*xxT|*1xx|[349]11|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxx|[2-9]xxxxxxT|[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|00x.T

Now, I can make a international call by 00 + country code + area + phone number. I don't know why it works, but at least, this can be a option for those who still cannot make international call yet.

scsnospam : I finally have the VTA setup as an extension to my asterisk server. Now, it seems to hang after a few hours. Both phone 1 and 2 lights blink. The asterusk server is still running fine, and registered.

When it hangs, I cannot even see it at its assigned IP address. I have to power off. Once it powers on, it seems to be provisioned by vonage, even though it had the provision IP set to my internal 192.168.x.x destination ! Other issues -

CYT can't seem to change the Admin password. I now have to login using the original Vonage Admin password from the xml file I downloaded.

Everytime I power on etc, the IP mode is set to DHCP, even though I change it to Static IP mode every time.

It seems to me that the vta is getting reset by something, and/or is seriously messed up.

Please help !

Despite following all you recommendations for setting up sipgate.co.uk, I still cannot get it to work. I have VoipCheap.Com working on Line 1 and it works perfectly but Sipgate.co.uk on Line 2 will not register.
I have tried swapping then around without any success (neither would work) and also tried just using Sipgate.co.uk on line 1 - still nothing.
Attached is my tiMAC.xml file - can anyone offer any advice.

no matter what i do, i can't get freedigit incoming to ring my phone. it goes stright to voicemail.

i'm using the same exact xml file as yours with just the auth info changed. freedigits is on Line 2. (voipstunt on Line1). Line1 LED goes solid green. Line2 LED remains OFF. i have my freedigits number as the CID on both Line1 and Line2.

however, despite the lack of solid green light on Line2, I can tell that Line2 _HAS_ established some sort of a connection to freedigits by picking up the phone and dialing out with Line2; i get a freedigits message saying that I don't have enough funds to place the call through freedigits which verifies that Line2 IS "talking" to freedigit servers.

However, when I dial the freedigit number, the phone won't ring, and will just go stright to voicemail. Please help, I've tried almost everything imaginable.

Yes. To avoid this problem, either don't power cycle the VTA-VR device when your computer isn't ON or completely remove the "CURRENT" provision fields (leave them empty, except the first one that points to 127.0.0.1 if you unlocked your device using CTY Unlocker).

Mazilo/Rcilink:
please explain why and how leaving 127.0.0.1 in the Current Provisioning field will allow my (VTA-VR) device to retain the xml file when the PC is turned off. And, will this hold true if the device is accidentally turned off, mainly due to power outages on the city's main power grid?

The reason why I ask is because in the country where I live there are many frequent and long (up to 4 hours!) power outages (the reasons for the outages I won't explain here!).

Dialing * before the 18xx number is necessary.

You're not going to find the actual manual unless you
can sign a NDA with the vendor.

The closest thing I found on dial plan pattern matching
is the Sipura ATA manual. The syntax is not identical
because there is no equivalent to pattern substitution as
