 | anybody using phone service from 3web? Hi. I live in downtown toronto and thinking about using phone sevice from 3web. Is there anybody using the service in downtown toronto? How is the quality and the price with high speed internet? |
|
 | You mean VOiP? |
|
 | yes... are you using it??? I currently dont have phone line at home.. Thnking about getting one.. |
|
 | I have it. Works flawlessly. Quality is better than Bell, for us. Bell used to say problems(crackly calls & dial-up disconnects) were fron squirrels chewing on the cable...?Glad to say goodbye to Bell. However,it may take a month to be up and running if they are still busy. It may take a bit longer if you have an old phone# to port over...then you have to wait for Bell as well. But it sounds like you could take one of their pre-ported numbers. |

 | Thanks for the info. What's the price of voip with the internet?? I can't find it on the website all i see is ld plan.. |
|
 | It's here: »www.cia.com/index.do
It's $39.95/month plus gst. I bought the Motorola VT1000 voice terminal for $99 which included the uninterupted power supply. Cable modem rental is $5 per month, then after 6 months rental you can buy it for $50. I had choices of different modems & I requested the Motorola SB5101 (great choice).
Looks like they are trying to improve customer service too, with new CSR phone trunk & new call center in Thunderbay etc... But if they're still swamped, expect some delays...? I won't go back to Bell, put it that way. |

 | john103,
No I actually spoke with someone.
Send an email to help@3web.com.
with all the confirmation / verification info you have received, if any. The date and time you ordered would be good if nothing else came.
Check your CC account online to see if a payment has been taken from them. No payment, no order.
You may have to start over. Ask for a phone call.
Keep us informed. |

 | reply to john103 What I don't quite understand, is how the UPS is going to save you from the power outages. Yes, you can plug into it the VIOP adapter and, probably, cable modem too, but if there is a power outage in your area, the DSL or cable internet service itself is going to be dead. The cable TV or DSL hardware, network routers, whatever is installed on the other side of the cable - it also will lack power, right? Unless, of course, these are also on their own UPSs - but are they?
When the power was out for two weeks in the Eastern North America several yeaers ago (in the middle of summer), the plain Bell phone lines mostly worked OK - if there was an interruption of the service, it was brief and was fixed fast. Does anyone know if the DSL service over those Bell lines was working? If not, then this is the point - how the UPS is going to save your VIOP phone service when the internet access is down? |
