If I type "Homepage" without the quotes in the address bar in Fire Fox I get redirected to microsoft.com

And it's taking you to microsoft.com because?
Some 'homepage' setting in FireFox?

"homepage" doesn't resolve to an address for me. Though homepage.com does, but not to Microsoft site.

try "bookmarks"

it seems when you do that Firefox takes you to the first google search.
ie: google "homepage" etc.
