cant wait to see if this update resolves issues with this router. |

 | reply to SterlingJ85 Fixed the problem with my router/laptop. I can't believe that Netgear hasn't officially released the firmware for this yet. All they have on their website is a ridiculous work-around that the average user doesn't have a change of figuring out... |

 | reply to SterlingJ85 It makes me wonder why they have not released new firmware nor responded to many reports of problems and bugs with this router and current official 1.0.41 firmware. IF the beta firmware is better I wonder why Netgear does not officially release and post it on their support download site. This makes me wonder if the Beta firmware is still buggy in itself or whether this is a hacked firmware that someone was able to recompile and offer for download. Netgear does not seem to care much about keeping customers nor staying in business these days. My WPNT834 with firmware v1.0_41 is buggy. It does not keep the time correctly I noticed. It is always about 14 minutes or so behind the real time! Anyone else experiencing this (look under email settings on the config page). I reset the router time, to resync it and it reads fine initially. I check it again next day and it is again about 14 minutes behind again. Firmware issue or hardware issue, I'm not sure. Does new Beta firmware fix this quirk also? |

 | reply to SterlingJ85 Took my WPNT834 back to the point of purchase together with downloaded copy of 1.0.44 firmware - trying to fix incompatibility issue with 3945 chipset Dell laptop. Well, along with techie from the shop, we managed to upgrade firmware but then none of the wired ports would work. I am in Australia and we ignored the NA version message - but I can't see how that would toast the Ethernet ports.
Tried going back to 1.0.41 which rendered the thing into nothing more than a triple-antennaed mantel ornament! Dead as! I trust that it was just the one in so many which is a dud. Meantime, it's going back to Netgear.
Can someone recommend another router which lives happily with the Intel 3945ABG wireless laptop chipset? |

JimFPremium join:2003-06-15 Allentown, PA 1 edit | My son has the Intel 3945ABG on his Asus laptop and is able to use my D-Link DI-634M with no problem. Also, the TRENDnet TEW-611BRP uses the same Atheros chipset as the DI-634M, and he has no problem with that either. But I get the impression that not all laptops that use the 3945ABG are created equal; some are more compatible than others (I stick with PC cards with Atheros chips myself, and have relatively few problems). |

 | Thanks for that JimF! Just the info I needed.

 | reply to JimF I'm in Aus and the NA version worked fine.
It's simply a matter of there being different regulatory domains for wireless internet, the frequencies are slightly different in NA and Non-NA areas but it's only on certain channels. |

 | reply to SterlingJ85 I've bought the WPNT834 yesterday. Worked flawlessly untill I connected my wifes Dell D520. Indeed, 3945ABG. I've just downloaded and installed the beta firmware (live in Europe, so ignored the "US only" message), and since then it works flawlessly. Have been "pinging" on three PC's now for about one hour, not a single hickup. Without the firmware, I took less then a minute before I the router rebooted. BTW: using both Vista and XP, no probs. |

 | Hello,
here in France I have downloaded the _44 firmware and it solved the wireless problem.
However it created a big problem, which seems to happen also with _41 : the DNS is not working properly.
From time to time I cannot access some web site, or some part of website (fr.yahoo.com is OK but not www.yahoo.com). It is a DNS problem, because ping on the IP address works, but lookup does not. It lasts a few minutes, and then the lookup works fine again. It is a router problem and not an ISP problem because when one of my PC does not access to the web site (no DNS resolution), my other PCs of the same LAN have no problem with lookup and do access the same web site at the same time.
I have tried to force some ISP DNS IP directly in the router, instead of getting them automatically and that does not change anything. I have tried to force the DNS directly into my network card and that does not make any difference.
I have seen this bug reported by CNET (»cnet.nytimes.com/Netgear_WPNT834···=1725781) so I thought it would have been addressed?
Thanks for any help on this, it is a very embarassing situation. Regards |

 | reply to SterlingJ85 Hi ... Maybe I'm just not as smart as I thought I was but I've just gotten the WPNT834 & the WPNT121 with no installation disk included for either.
A trip to the Netgear website has been fruitless as the zip files do not render useful *.inf files for installation on either of the computers that I'm trying to install (for router and wireless adapter).
The file you have included in your thread renders nothing but an unusable *.img file (as do all the Firmware versions for these products on the Netgear website) ...
I admit I'm an intermediate computer user with comparable knowledge but I've now been working on this thru Thanksgiving and have to keep re-hooking my cable modem sans router to access the internet.
Any advice or pity for this desperate woman who just wants to be able to check her email and access the internet from her upstairs office as well as her living room?
Happy Holidays & TIA for bothering to read this plea. Believe me, I wouldn't be annoying you (or admitting my stupidity) if I weren't in dire straits. |

 | Hi there,
The firmware being offered is for the WPNT834 router, to install it follow the instructions at the bottom here:
»kbserver.netgear.com/release_not···3004.asp
For the WPNT121 there is a firmware available here: »kbserver.netgear.com/products/WPNT121.asp
I'm not sure if you need USB drivers as I don't have one
For the WPNT511 there's some firmware here: »kbserver.netgear.com/products/WPNT511.asp |
