However getting it registered either via cd or over the phone IS necessary for the provisioing system to flag the modem as being allowed to acquire the proper bootfile.<br>As c0rd pointed out, not paying your bill doesn't unprovision your modem which is why you don't have to run it. But at some point the modem needs to be provisioned first. But thank you for the...rather colourful...explanation of the provisioning system that you're unfamiliar with.]]></description>

They'll either be able to register it for you over the phone, or they'll have to escalate a ticket off to have it done witha 24-72 hour turnaround. All you have to download is software that will streamline the process after it completed successfully I just uninstalled the software. I am going to swap it for a newer modem because the power connector is flaky and will shut the modem off if you bump the table that it sits on. When I talked to Comcast they said they will exchange the modem and give me a CD for the installation.<br>Is there a different way to provision? Its not that I don't trust their software but I don't want their logo all over things like Explorer, Firefox, etc. ]]></description>
