Re: What Color is the Moon, Really?

This is great!

said by NoelC:

The moon really is this color, just not nearly this color-saturated. If you don't believe it, desaturate this image and see how natural it looks.
This is not a good test... you could make it any hue you wanted, and it would look just the same once desaturated, wouldn't it? But I believe you anyways!

Nice of you all to lay on such praise. I may not deserve it, but I do appreciate it!

Heh heh. Don't make it completely black and white - it looks wrong if you do that. Desaturate it to, say, -80%.

ATTENTION NUMBER 118 (known to earthlings as NoelC):
It has been brought to my attention (as the Commandant, Inferior Planets Infiltrators Monitoring Command), that you have been posting pictures of the home area and others in this strange earthling-world known as DSLR, leading to unwanted unusual interest on the part of previously ignorant earthlings.

The Pod Mother is not amused. You have been warned; continued infractions will result in an order to report to the Home Ship for re-programming.

No! Don't listen to that guy (who occasionally takes over my posting) and never consider stopping posting these wonderful shots.

Note to Pod Mother: don't be silly. NoelC's photos only make us more appreciative and in awe of the home base. And anyhow, DSLR-ers aren't average earthlings .

Great shot. Can you give us the technical details of the shot? Was that a 20D or 20Da?

And have you considered submitting the picture to NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day?

Not too shabby...incredible in fact!!!

The moon just seems so much cooler when it is set in a field of stars. We never get to see that thing due to its extreme brightness. Thanks for sharing!

Looks like we all have the same desktop now. Thank you for sharing this. All these years and I never knew this. I always thought it was grey dust. Nobody ever told me the moon is not grey but pink and blue, and if they had I probably wouldn't have believed them. Too much!
