Re: Laws on spinning the tires?

said by owenhome:

The number of police doing traffic duty versus the number responding to calls is approximatly 30 to 1.
I wish. I see so many egregious traffic violations, which need citing, that sometimes I don't think traffic violations are even a low priority for this region. We don't have as much crime as most other cities our size, so it isn't that they are too busy chasing crooks.

There are, in many cases, offenders that absolutely need tickets/punishment. I wholeheartedly agree that some people drive way beyond the speed limit, recklessly, or in some other way that endangers others. They deserve whatever they get. But just writing tickets for the sake of generating profits, that soooo wrong in so many ways!

I have complained about this too. I have spoken with the DA, council members, officers, etc. They all assume I have received lots of tickets and I am holding a grudge. But my record is perfect. I have no tickets or accidents anywhere on it. I haven't received a ticket in 5 years, and even then, it was just for a light out. And that's another thing that pisses me off. How are you supposed to know a light has gone out? Obviously, if you know and you don't fix it, you deserve one. But if you are out driving around, and it burns out, do you deserve a ticket? F NO! They make up bullsh!t to ticket you too, so they can reach their quotas. I was riding with a friend once. He drives as carefully as I do, we have to in this traffic cop infested town. Both of us, when we stop at a stop sign, we come to a complete stop. You always know too because, with an automatic, you can feel the front-end suspension unload when you come to a complete stop. Well, he came to a complete stop, the suspension unloaded, he waited about 5 seconds, and went on. He was pulled over and ticketed for failing to come to a complete stop. He fought it, I was with him in court, and he lost. He was polite as can be until the officer returned with a ticket. After he got the ticket, he argued with that officer up and down about it. Both of us swore he stopped, you can easily feel and even see the front-end come up when you do. But it didn't matter. What's more, while we were stopped, another officer stopped to chat with the officer that stopped us. They were comparing how many tickets they had written. The other officer had 17 in an hour and a half. The officer that stopped us had 10 in the same amount of time, and he was pissy about it because one of those 10 had to be arrested (warrants), and that cost him time to write other tickets and he was loosing. The other officer said "If I have 17, and you have 10, than Steve must have at least 30 by now!". Rotten pieces of shit!

My sister drives a Hyundai, it couldn't spin the tires to save its life. It's the slowest POS I have ever seen. It has trouble going over hills faster than 50mph. She was at a light and a Mustang in front of her took off white-smoking its tires. She was behind him. Well, they pulled her over and wrote her tickets for excessive acceleration, unlawful release of traction (marked as "other" on the ticket), racing, reckless driving, violation of city noise ordinance, excessive speed (WTF, she was going like 30 in a 40mph zone when they pulled her over), AND, get this, AND impeding traffic (when the cop lit her up, she was doing 30 in a 40, she was nervous because a cop was on her butt so she went slow) and it seems there was something else too, I just don't remember. Anyway, it was over $1000 in fines. What's more, the 2 black marks through the intersection were almost 10" wide each. Her Hyundai's tires are like 2" wide bicycle tires! I took pictures of the black marks with a ruler over them, and pictures of her tires, also with a ruler. I also printed a few reviews of her car citing the incredibly low HP. I took pictures of the engine in her car along with her driver's license, to show ownership, and used these pictures to show the engine was stock and not modified. Then we went to court. The judge held the case over for a jury trial. I had my attorney represent her. It was easy to prove her car was not the one burning out and get her out of that mess. But that's not the point. Any officer should have had the common sense to know a Hyundai couldn't do something like that, much less race a Mustang, from behind it no less. After everything was said and done, that same officer started following her all over the place. From her house to work, from work to home, to her friends, all around town. She got sick of it and made a complaint. Afterwords, that officer didn't follow her anymore, other officers did. Everywhere she went, police would follow WAITING for her to screw up. Fortunately, she didn't. Eventually, after a number of complaints, and after I had my attorney speak with the chief of police, that stopped. But this is just one instance in thousands that happen in this F-ING city. Our police dept sucks a$$.

There are hundred of other stories just as bad in this city. Where not that small of a city, about 120,000 people. So you really wouldn't expect them to get away with it for so long, but they do. A smaller city, about 30 miles away, Electra, their police department is being investigated by the feds over the same thing. They're also being investigated for repeated excessive force, curruption, and more. They only have something like 3,000 people in Electra.

Back when we had a real, normal, police force, sh!t like this didn't happen. In fact, I was friends with the chief, who was also my flight instructor for my pilot's license (for free!).

Anywhere else where you can find a normal police officer, they might pull up along side and tell you, or pull you over to let you know. But this town is so F-ING ticket crazy, it's just an excuse to write you one. The bastards. It takes 2 hours to get an officer to your business if it is vandalized. The whole while, motorcycle cops, and cruisers on traffic duty are moving up and down the street right in front of you. When my store had a window SHOT OUT WHILE I WAS THERE AND THE BULLET GOT STUCK IN THE WALL IN THE STORE, it took 2 and a half HOURS to get police there!!!! While I was waiting, I counted 14 motorcycle police pass by!

I have a great deal of respect for officers who do their job to protect people. But when they instead do nothing but HARASS us, and STEAL from us, they should burn in hell.

In an earlier post, you mentioned something about the city council, and their idea of what they wanted from the police. Your police department is not an independent entity, it answers to civil authority. City council, mayor, etc. If your elected officials are not doing their jobs, you start with them. Try electing people who can actually do a job.

Even if you get the Feds involved, it still comes down to the city mamas and papas. The Feds can clean things up, but things won't stay clean if your elected officials are dirty.

Haven't they done a few episodes of COPS in Wichita Falls? I swear I've seen a few of them.

Cops? Not that I'm aware of and my wife watches that show like mad.

But, Wichita Falls has been in TONS and TONS of storm shows. Most of the storm chasers come through here (I-44 corridor). Every spring, fleets of them move through here with their Doppler trucks and porcupine pickups.

OH!!!!! There WAS a Cold Case Files done here a while back on our serial killer. I knew the guy too, he was my first karate instructor. He killed several nurses from around the area. He killed the mother of a girl I used to work with too. Maybe that's what you're thinking about? Never would have thought it was him either, great guy. Here we were all scared to death, freaking out, not going out at night, and the WHOLE TIME we were going to see the killer every other day!!!!! WTF!?

You can blame that on radar and the like. It's much easier to find some long straight section of road or the bottom of a steep hill and write speeding tickets. Not to mention the take is usually better.

On thing that always bugged me about that, in some states, they can't drasticaly lower the limit. In NY one can see 55 to 30 with little warning, and if you haven't slowed fast enough you're ticket bait.
