This may very well end up in one of the most retarded GM moves in NHL history. I got a nice laugh from this. Good old Islanders... -- Life is a game of blackjack. You keep playing until you bust. |

| reply to ZZZZZZZ Holy crap, 15 year deal, for a goalie that still has to prove himself? You know, I thought they were nuts for signing that nutjob Yashin for 10 years, but at least he had some scoring talent, but this deal is just outrageous.
Oh well, I hope the Isles finish dead last and really feel it burn. Who the hell signs long term deals longer than 5 years in today's NHL? -- ·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´ |

You know, I thought they were nuts for signing that nutjob Yashin for 10 years That's what I thought when I read about the deal this afternoon. They are still trapped by Yashin's deal and turn around and sign an even longer deal with someone who has yet to prove he's anything above a standard-issue NHL goalie.
Yashin for Chara, the draft pick that got Spezza and Bill Muckalt -- what a deal.....for the Sens!
said by capdjq:The LA Lakers signed Magic Johson to a 25 year deal in 1984. He turned out fine. I'd argue that Magic Johnson was "the real deal" the moment he arrived in the league, a superstar in a very short time and is arguably one of the greatest ever. So if he breaks a leg in game 1 and is done ,he still collects all the cash?
I wonder if Ted Nolan is wishing he stayed in junior hockey...lol -- BRING OUR TROOPS HOME,NOW!!!!! |

dirtyjefferAnons on ignore.Premium join:2002-02-21 London, ON | reply to ZZZZZZZ wow...i am stunned...at first, i thought you guys were kidding...then i followed the link...about the only thing this guarantees the franchise is a salary for their goalie...for example, if 10 years from now, the average goalie is making $7 million per year (with comparable numbers), then the franchise is going to save money...this has more to do with DiPietro than anything...if he sucks, the management looks like morons...if he has a stellar career, they will look brilliant...it's a gamble...only time will tell how it works out. -- -"I have tried to see things from your point of view, but no matter how hard I try, or what I do, I just can't get my head that far up my ass."

noelstrommeh.Premium join:2003-04-07 London, ON | reply to ZZZZZZZ Snow had nothing to do with the contract offer. This is all Wang's doing. In fact, it's why Neil Smith was fired only 6 weeks after he was hired. Wang has wanted to do this all summer, and Smith wanted to play hard ball with him. When Smith didn't fold, he was fired, and a "yes-man" was brought in. -- My name is noelstrom, and I approve this message. www.myspace.com/noelstrom |

tyler00Premium join:2001-06-27 Pickering, ON | reply to ZZZZZZZ Same organization who kept Dipietro over Luongo. This is a big year for both goaltenders and we will see what happens. What if the Islanders make the playoffs and the Canucks miss it? Then does it look like a good move?
Probably not still since there are 14 more years to go. But many teams go 15 years without a cup. If the Islanders win it once in that 15 years, is it worth it?
Yeah it is a risky move but not everyone is about playing it safe. The Islanders still could be right in their prediction of Dipietro being better than Luongo but only time will tell. Dipietro has not even been the Islanders problem over the past few years and last year despite the Islanders missing the playoffs he had his good streaks.
It's a gamble and anything can happen. No one expected Carolina to even make the playoffs at the start of last season. |
