Of course, they cost a little bid more but the quality is higher and they can be ripped and tranfered to other dvd devices. |

If you are ripping DVDs to other devices you are doing it illegally.
Anyways are you guys all under 20 or something? What happened in 1984 when your new copy of Trading Places got eaten by the VCR? Did you get a new copy? Um...no you had to BUY a new one. Now everyone thinks they have some entitlement to as many copies as they want. If you wanted to watch the movie at a friend's house you had to take it with you so if someone back at home wanted to watch it too they were out of luck. Sure you could make copies of it, but the qualty was WAY bad. Unlike "ripping" a DVD which is a 100% perfect copy. |

Making a backup copy of the dvd that you bought is completely legal according to fair use. When you sell it or distribute it is when u get into issues

They didn't look as bad as you say they did. I did when I was about 6-7 so my aladdin and garfield cartoons stayed safe. When my VCR destroyed my tape, I didn't lose anything but the cost of the recordable tape, which I obviously hadn't paid for.
b) So if I buy the DVD, you want me to buy it again to play it on my portable device, instead of ripping it, converting it, and putting it on my portable?
And they wonder why people prefer downloading to buying...
