Yeah, never underestimated the power of people unwilling or unable to think for theselves lapping it up from people telling them how to think all the while tossing fact to the wind... All pundits need to be dropped in the ocean... Except maybe for Colbert since he makes fun of all them.

As the punchline of the joke goes... It a would be "a good start."

Well, how many times has FOX News been caught in a deliberate lie? How does it measure up against other news outlets when it comes to getting caught in a major news-related scandal (i.e., something akin to the New York Times and the Jayson Blair scandal, CBS and the fake memos scandal, etc.)

It seems all of FOX News' detractors who claim that their content is somehow "fake" often don't realize that compared to other "news" sources, their record is actually pretty clean.

Fox News didn't suck up to Saddam in Baghdad like CNN did, remember CNN let the goons at the Iraqi Ministry of Information censor their stories so they would not get kicked out of the country, and they failed to tell anybody listening about it.

Depends... Most of the lying on Fox comes from their commentary shows like O'Reilly, Hannity and others where its all about opinion and politics.

How does it measure up against other news outlets when it comes to getting caught in a major news-related scandal (i.e., something akin to the New York Times and the Jayson Blair scandal, CBS and the fake memos scandal, etc.)
Most of the lying is the distortion or selective presentation of fact rather than an outright lie reported as news... Fox apparently knows that outright lies will get you slapped down, but if you present the news with your agenda subtlety enough, you don't need to lie.

It seems all of FOX News' detractors who claim that their content is somehow "fake" often don't realize that compared to other "news" sources, their record is actually pretty clean.
When it comes to outright lies, yes. But Fox doesn't need to lie outright. It has its "commentators" of the Hannity and O'Reily ilk to do it for them.

Why a news channel needs such programming is beside me because political hacks like Hannity, O'Reilly, Franken, etc. etc. have NO NEWS VALUE. So, why put them on a NEWS channel ?

Fact is, the state of news media in America is declining... Fox is as big of a problem as the others.

There's a reason news is now called news-entertainment. Its not longer about the reporting of the day's FACTS, its about political and personal agendas and the deliberate distortion and selective introduction of fact, or in some cases, out right lies, to further an agenda while keeping the people glue to their television through the use of sensationalism.

Its odd how the media in American seems to resemble the Politbureau more and more...

If you look at someone like Bill O'Reilly, the most trouble he's been in was not due to his lying in his presentation, but rather due to sexually herassing a female coworker. Again, that's not lying.

As for the other commentators, where have any of them been involved in a scandal such as the ones I mentioned with the NYT, CBS (and CNN, as was mentioned in another post)? I guarantee that if any FOX News contributor was caught in such a lie, it would still be the lead story on every other network even to this day.

This practice is not exclusive to FOX News. CNN and MSNBC also have their fair share of opinionated commentators. While they may not be charged with presenting the news per se, there is obviously a value in having opinionated commentary (when it is presented as such).

Again though, of all the major news outlets, FOX News has avoided falling into the "Fake News" traps that have ensnared other news organizations. I would dare say that the "decline" of other news outlets is due moreso to the poor quality of the product (i.e., a lack of even basic fact checking) than anything else.

I'm assuming that this is a commentary on other media outlets including FOX News. The only problem with this assertion is that it is all the news organizations which have been caught in outright lies that are having a ratings problem. FOX News doesn't fall into this category.

Getting caught sleeping with a female co-worker is not lying... He, however, does lie when he misrepresents the facts of the day and distorts. For anyone to say that O'Reilly (or any of the others for that matter) does not lie is to be naive at best and complicate at worst.

As for the other commentators, where have any of them been involved in a scandal such as the ones I mentioned with the NYT, CBS (and CNN, as was mentioned in another post)?
Lying, distortion and misrepresentation is still lying, distortion or misrepresentation, regardless of the size of it.

Its still lying, just not in the same sense as crafting a fake article. There are many ways to lie and Fox does it the best way, not doing outright but through subtle means.

Again though, of all the major news outlets, FOX News has avoided falling into the "Fake News" traps that have ensnared other news organizations.
Because Fox knows its better to make a 1000 distortions over a period of time instead of one large Fake story that you can get hung for eventually.

I would dare say that the "decline" of other news outlets is due moreso to the poor quality of the product (i.e., a lack of even basic fact checking) than anything else.
Its more of an audience issue than anything... The news has to placate to the LCD. You can't expect high quality news when a majority of the audience can't digest it.

Oh no... That statement applies to ALL of the major news sources, fake news scandals or not. Fox news is as guilty of being a news-entertainment outlet as all the others. They use the same sensationalist methods as the others out there. One only needed to watch during the Michael Jackson, Kolbe Bryant and Scott Peterson bullshit to see it.

Fact is that there is no longer a unbiased news source left anymore that gives its audience the facts to make a decision on their own anymore. Unbiased news is dead.

So, using this logic, FNC's 24% downturn in ratings is because they've been caught lying. Seems about right. Meanwhile, other networks have seen an increase in viewership. Hmmm....

Ok, I will type this very, very slowly so you understand it:

When

has

FOX

News

Been

Caught

Lying

In a NEWS piece?

Now, just so you don't make the same mistake again, someone stating an opinion, in the context of an opinion show, even if it is something with which you may not agree, is NOT lying about NEWS. His opinion may be wrong, but since its not NEWS, it doesn't count as lying during NEWS.

What? We're simply using your logic. FNC's ratings have sunk 24%, so it must be because they've been lying.

Now, just so you don't make the same mistake again, someone stating an opinion, in the context of an opinion show, even if it is something with which you may not agree, is NOT lying about NEWS. His opinion may be wrong, but since its not NEWS, it doesn't count as lying during NEWS.
You sure like to put words in other peoples' mouths. It's a very lame tactic.

So they're not lying in news pieces then. Case Closed.

Looks like we have another contestant!

Ok, I'll accept your premise. Now all you have to do to convince me that FOX News is full of BS is to show me an example of a news story that was broadcast on FOX News that was later shown to be a lie. You get bonus points if FOX News continued to stick by the story even after it was proven to be a lie.

I figured this would be a very easy game to play, since FOX News, according to you people, is lying about everything all the time. This should provide you with at least one concrete example.

Using your logic of sagging ratings, they are.
