quote: Strogen says she's not a big fan of her new push-button phone.
"I'd like to have my rotary back," she said. "I like that better."

| Re: The lady is actually mad that they stopped renting it to her yeah, that's why I posted earlier... surely one of the kids/grandkids could've found granny a nice one all refurbished on ebay or a yard sale and just given it to her... some people are just clueless regardless of age, income, -insert factor here-
I remember using an old rotary phone.. believe it or not, my parents had one up until about '91. Yes, they were stuck in their ways... but we also had a touchtone or two in the house.
There is something to be said for their quality and durability compared to a $10 wal-mart special. I'd say the saddest part is that the phone co. is/was able to charge so much, for so long, for a device that should have been paid off. After 1985, they should've gone straight to rent to own type deal, esp. for such a longtime customer...
Then again, cable modems are rented by many people who don't realize they can opt to buy them. Cox sold me mine for 4 payments on my bill, but I had to ask for that option. I can imagine many who have no clue simply paying their rental every month, for years now, and that can add up too...
Heck, telco's are reluctant to EVER admit their mistakes, mis-billings, shady ways... This news actually doesn't surprise me at all, it's just sad.

As much as I hate the telegraph companies, I have to say that those old Western Electric phones, both rotary and the later touch tone models, were built like tanks. They were almost indestructible. -- Only SHATNER is Kirk.

I've still got 3 Western phone circa 84-85 that still work great. Find me a phone you can buy today that will still be working in 2016.

So they tell you they are going to divide the modem cost over several bills at say $20 per bill. If you have a Bill pay account (as many, many) do you won't know that 2 years later the $20 "division" is still comming off of your account. The modem is $100 so the $480 you paid is cool huh? You don't want that money back, won't fight it or anything?
