Re: Workaround from Earthlink customer service Thank you for the DNS solution above. It seems to be working for my account (dial-up, BTW.) I just happened on this discussion after trying to "fix" this hijack for nearly a week.
I just bought a new PC a couple of weeks ago and I assumed this was some unwanted feature that Gateway had stuck on the box, spent hours cleaning references to my.earthlink.net, »my.eimg.net and »earthlink-help.net our of my registry to no avail, etc.
And all because I just want to use the address input on my browser to search for anything I damn well please (non-URLs) with the default MSN (or Windows Live Search, as it has been rechristened of late.) Old convenient one step habit that I'm sure some of you Microsoft-bashers would find appalling, but it has served me well for years.
So has EarthLink up to now, but hijacking is a violation of my privacy and I am not happy. They should have sent out an announcement of this "service" and provided a way to sidestep it before the "rollout".
Shades of AOL! Maybe EarthLink is getting too big for people who care.
Maybe it is time to start shopping for a new provider... |
