477 Data

The data they are requesting does not exist at the FCC as far as I know. If they are wanting the data submitted in relation to the FCC 477 then the best they are going to get is a zip code that any 200k service is provided to, the list of providers that have atleast 1 customer in that area the total number of broadband customers that company has.

As an independant ISP this request bothers me. I had reservations about filling out the 477 as mandated by the FCC because I was concerned this information could become public. The release of this information is more telling for a small operator because the information is more meaningful. I serve 4 zip codes so it is pretty easy to get an idea what the numbers mean. Qwest on the other hand services thousands of zip codes so getting their customer count and the zip list will be all but meaningless for the competition.

I'm not sure if the Center for Public Democracy is ignorant of the data collected or if they are really fronting for something else.
