Digital is useful for playing Dolby Pro Logic and THX movies on a 5.1 system that has a decoder. For 2.1 there isn't much if anything that comes close to the klipsch. Logitech has a good ~$300 5.1 that accepts digital. I did read about a guy that used an old AV/receiver, a pair of good grade home theater type speakers, and a spare $600-700 subwoofer to build a custom gaming system a few weeks ago. It's not worth it to me but it might be to you.

Personally if it were me I'd plug the Klipsch into the analog port and have fun.
