2wire 1701HG-large download problem

David : Over the last week, Carbon Unit presented a problem to me that seems (or as least proven with an efficient 5360 so far) that the 2wire will not handle very large downloads (Windows Vista RC1 came to mind).

said by: Carbon Unit

I seem to have this ongoing connection issue, it has to do with when i am downloading a large file, for example if I am downloading windows vista RC1 which is a 3gb file and then I try to surf the web I cant get any pages to load, if I pause the download then web surfing etc is ok, this also effect any other computer on my network, seems that the modem is dedicating 100% bandwidth to the downloading file? I have tried many different things and with no luck, this problem has been going on for several months and is now beginning to be a annoyance?

So a solution I had was to try a old 5360-002 model I had and so far I got this back yesterday

said by: Carbon Unit

Hey David, the problem is definitely my 2Wire gateway, I plugged in the SpeedStream modem and I had no problem surfing the web etc when downloading Ubuntu linux @600k, I posted once before this issue in the 2 wire forum and I didn't get much help, I will try to post again,
again, thank you very much for you help
Brian

I suggested that he might need a firmware update and to post here. So far I am thinking it is way beyond a sync problem and the efficient modem I gave him seems to have did the trick. Is there a firmware update he might be missing? I mean I hate to be the bad man but it seems to have proven the 2wire apparently capped his limits. Only thing I can think of would be a QoS setting the 2wire needs or needs to be user friendly (if that makes sense). I also have a 2wire 1701HG ( I can't say I have tested this because I use a 5100b (bridged) and m0n0wall as my router). I have my 2wire 1701HG here with the default firmware in it, would using that one maybe help in this regard?

--
If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this.
Koetting Ford, Granite City, illinois...
