The way I understand it is you pay more up-front for Cisco-branded memory modules, but what you get in return is the same level of warranty & replacement time as the router they are in, i.e. your SmartNet contract covers the memory modules as well. This may not be important to the home user, but it is vital to businesses who have these routers in mission-critical roles in their networks. Do what you feel is best in your situation.
As for you, MiDiMaN, I don't know if I could call that a "Jackass" mod, but I will be on the look-out for your new hit TV show "Pimp My Router"...
Now what you need to do next is install some remote-control hydraulics to open and close the router case when you press a button on your keychain.
