 | If u have nextel and are really close to goverment they are of course they gonna win the wirless wars thanks to high-tech equipment they got off of nextel. |

en102Canadian, eh? join:2001-01-26 Valencia, CA | Nextel ... high tech...don't make me laugh. iDEN is quite low tech. I use a Nexthell BB 7510, and even WiDEN only hits about 100kbps. |

a chached view of the old website is on google for www.nextelbroadband.com

It depends on what you mean by high tech. iDEN data is not blazing fast, in that regard you could say its "low tech." I believe we could all agree that we've yet to see a PTT solution from anybody that can come close to matching it. iDEN is also the most spectrally efficient of the TDMA based technologies out there and can come close to matching a CDMA site in terms of capacity.

| reply to wifi4milez Just pinged www.yahoo.com and got a 182ms average. Dr. Ping just gave me a 196.1 rating and I've got 596/126 results from a speed test.
I've been very happy with my EVDO service here in Charlotte. Was in Columbia MD for a week and it was very good there too.
I pretty much browse the web. My laptop usually is connected this way so I'll also do OS udpates, A/V updates and might download the occasional MP3 here and there.
I certainly wouldn't try to do all that I do on my cable modem with it. But it is very nice to have a "normal" network connection when I'm at work (and one the boss can't spy on). |

Perhaps my latency is higher since I use my phone as a modem instead of a dedicated PC card, although I cant see how that would make sense. -- я люблю медведей! |

They found the signal didn't work well from tower to house in the burbs (too many large green leafy things in the way...) They spent over an hour on my house trying to get a good signal but gave up and admitted defeat in the shadow of a large maple. They got the tech knowhow from a little known company out in Arizona (which they bought). |

tc1uscg join:2005-03-09 Saint Clair Shores, MI | reply to BillRoland Since Sprints PTT shares the use of a T1, it's got that initial "latency" issue (4-6 seconds to find the person your calling). Once your connected, your latency is 0-2 seconds. So, what makes Nextel 2way better? How about the fact it's very top heavy and inefficient which sucks up a T1, grabs hold of it and doesn't let it go till the call is terminated. I've seen "their" eqp in SCO's and it's like pitting a cell phone from 1993 to one of today. From a customer standpoint, it sucks having to wait that initial few seconds for a connection, when you can get a connection but Sprints way doesn't cost the company capacity and bandwidth and works in more places then 2way.. I've used both. Not that Sprints PTT is better, it just took a little getting use too. I only use it now when our family is out and about and the kids go their merry way. It works and works well. Besides.. I likes Sprints "chirp chirp" sounds better.. |
