Re: Semantics said by Raptor:Comcast also said the man was a contractor, not an actual Comcast employee. When will compaines learn, that is NOT an excuse. Whether or not Comcast ran a technician in question through their 'rigorous' training, any individual doing the work for Comcast is a representation of Comcast. I was just about to comment on that. Whether he is a Comcast employee or not, customers don't know or care; all they know is that he represents Comcast and is there to do a job. The reputation of Comcast lies in the hands of whoever they send out to do the work, be it a contractor or an actual employee.
But Comcast isn't the only one that has problems with Contractors. I've had my own share of contractors sent out by Adelphia who had no idea what they were doing at my home. One instance the guy knocked on my door to let me know he was going to cut my cable for failure to pay and back payments. After showing him bills, etc it was determined he had the wrong house. Had he not knocked, or had I not been home, my cable would have been disconnected. The contractor could hardly speak English. When an Adelphia employee would come out, the work would be done correctly and in a timely fashion. Besides, some contractors have these crappy old pickup trucks and you often wonder if they are really who they say they are. -- YourIP.US - Quickly Locate Your IP! |

This isn't just Comcast, it's just about every cable company out there, or I should say, cable sub-contractor since this type of an ad usually comes from the contractor, not the cable operator.
If this was a carpenters job, sometimes a light auto mechanics, or even electician or plumbers job, you'd see a similar ad as well... So, maybe your home, too, was built by a guy who saw a similar ad like this. -- "Wipe out the national deficit over night... Tax the stupid!" - about 50 gMail invites available. Well, I have a couple of different DeWalt 14.4 volt drills, so I am 3.6 volts short there, but I have pretty much everything else on the list just from doing stuff around the house.
So, I can go get an old van for about $2,000 and be all set for a career making $10.00 and hour with Comcast?! |

 | reply to Joe12345678 why two batteries? Can't they charge the one while sleeping at the customer's house. ROFLMAO!
Does the tape measure have to be metal or plastic? Exactly what is "fish tape"?
I can't believe this is back. |
|
 | Fish tape is used to push cable through the walls. |

zerog join:2002-02-10 Carrollton, TX kudos:1 | reply to rachelsfx fish tape is a long spool of spring steel (looks like a thin flat wire) that is used to pull cables through walls and conduits. (i.e., to "fish" it through the wall) |

.... like that pisses me off to no end. Agreed. But the US, for better or for worse, does not have an 'official' language, unlike many of the countries from whence the aforementioned person may have been fleeing from. -- I am not lost, I find myself every time. |

Most governing institutions in the US have de facto policy to write the official versions of law and statute in English. All publications in other languages are regarded as translations of the official statute (written in English).

Florida has an official language, which is English. Therefore, THEY NEED TO LEARN IT. It should be mandatory with a spelling test (on public TV)! No, but seriously, they need to learn it. Article II, Section 9:
SECTION 9. English is the official language of Florida.--
(a) English is the official language of the State of Florida.
(b) The legislature shall have the power to enforce this section by appropriate legislation.

Well, I would say English is pretty influential, considering quite a few jobs require knowing it. Did you know, in order to be an airplane pilot, you *MUST* know english. Yeah, it appears when the Wright brothers invented the plane, America standardized commercial air traffic (with air traffic controllers), and as a result, everyone flying has to speak fluent english. In other words, in Brazil, you would speak english to get authorization for landing on their runway.
