Re: Battlefield 2142 ships with spyware? Say it ain't so

said by 33591094:

What's the retail price for this game? If the answer is anything other than "free", then this whole concept is insane. Who would willingly pay for this???
People who spent 100s to 1000s of hours playing the predecessor game battlefield 2, and don't mind if there are some in-game billboards showing them adverts of cars (or whatever)? And further, these people will shrug when told that some computer inside EA knows a tiny little bit about the PC that it the game is installed on, and ask "and so?".
If I buy the game retail and install it and play it, where in this process does EA know anything about ME that could conceivably come back to haunt me later?

Justin, it's not in the process and it need not be. They already have your account info and if you used EAD to get the game, they have your full name and address as well. I get enough spam mail for viagra and various other pharmaceuticals and I don't need to see it in game also. I would like to know if EA plans to compensate the players in anyway if they do make millions off of this advertising. Will they host contests, tournaments, etc? Hell, will they at least offer more support for it than they did for the last few titles?

I know that but I was responding to the message I quoted.
