Wow...

WTH is wrong with some of you? How can anyone be for limiting cities from wiring themselves? I'm guessing that NONE of you taking this position even live in such place. Whine and cry all you want about "gov't monopolies", but there would be nothing to prevent the telcos from moving into such cities at a later date. And so what if the city operates that service at a loss? The citizens are still paying for it somewhere via taxes. The loss must be covered by taxes/revenue from a different department, otherwise the city itself goes bankrupt.

I fail to see the problem.

And that's only for taxpayer funded projects. Many of them are private/public partnerships solely funded by private funds.
