Re: NSW 2006 - Norton Unerase broken by recent Symevent updates after 5 reinstalls of norton system works, uninstalled sp2 uninstalled ie 7, uninstalled ccleaner, spysweeper, diskeeper. and after many hours on the phone with tech support symantec, as well as the waiting, for a tech support agent, there final conclusion was to re install xp (format the c drive.
After the rebuild installed nsw2006 np recycle worked yeaaaa, rebooted guess what it did not work again empty protected files was shaded out, that was yesterday 31st Oct, today downloaded and installed new update from live updates, yep all is working well.
What a mess...................technical support at symantec needs technical support. |

1 edit | I'm sorry you went all through that but I will never, ever format and reinstall Windows to fix any issue with any program. Even Windows XP itself doesn't require this to fix problems with Windows (it has a repair option).
From my conversations with Symantec support, I'm convinced they've never used any of the Symantec programs that they are supposedly supporting. If they did, they could basically try doing what the customer says he/she did and see the problems for themselves instead of always recommending a reinstall for every problem.
They barely even read what I write in my email. I've been trying to go through support to report that many of the context help links in NIS 2006 don't actually bring me to help on that topic. I happened to mentioned I had NSW 2006 installed so the support person responded that "I understand from your message that you are unable to use the options under Norton System Works."
No where did I say any thing about "options" in my email. It's like I'm talking to one of those dumb voice mail systems that never understands what you are saying. So I responded with "I understand from your last message that you did not read my last message therefore I am resending it." I have yet to hear back. 
Sorry for the rant, especially since Symantec fixed this issue, but Symantec really needs to dump their support or at least give them copies of the software they are supposed to be supporting and tell them to use it.

I am using the Dutch versions of NSW 2005 & NIS 2006.

Speaking of which, it looks like »ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_···/symevnt was never updated with 12.1.3.6. It probably should be.

If the version of SymEvent which contains the fix for this is 12.1.3.6 it will not install over my version I guess... |

No, SymEvent 12.2.0.3 was installed by the ESD version of Norton Confidential. Looks like the problem was fixed but at the same time re-introduced for users of Norton Confidential...  |
