I am not sure but I had the same problem in the past.  During peak times my connection was fine but early in the morning or late at night my signal would be up over +16Db which is not in the acceptable range -12Db to +12Db.  My problem was an easy fix I figure out myself.  I had a Motorola Signal booster that worked on cable and broadband.  All I did was split it before the booster where the modem had it's own line off the booster.  Insight might have to fix something at your drop to lower the signal, they also have had to do that in my area.  Someone correct me if I am wrong this is just an assumption.]]></description>

I had a tech come by today and he was telling me that 'this is an ongoing problem.'  That is simply unacceptable. I am completely without any broadband access from about 10pm to after about 10am each day.  This is an "ongoing problem???"  After also telling him about how my digital tv box was acting up (on screen guide not working right, several digital channels not working, and on-demand being very choppy) he went out and tested the signal and said that it was too high.  Well, here's my thing. The signal is high and I'm online now.  Why do I loose the signal only at night when it gets cold?  What it comes down to is that I'm getting less than half of what I'm <B>paying</B> for.  Unacceptable!!]]></description>

They came out and checked all my signals and they made a phone call to a higher tier level support I suppose and ended up finding out that it was a CTMS? server issue or something and it was affecting alot of users in my area.  They will be working on getting it fixed.  I hope this will fix my problem.  I will post more info when I find it out.]]></description>

They just informed me that my ticket is still open and I should call tech support back.  I still have not received a supervisor call.  I gave up on calling every single night.  Same ol' routine every night.  I get tired of proving insight that it is not my modem/router/nic/spyware/virus or whatever crap they want to throw out there and blame it on.  I am a Tech with UPS and I don't treat my customers that way.  If they have a reoccurring issue and I am aware of it I don't treat them as if they are idiots and that it is their fault every time.]]></description>

Now I'm just getting random periods that last about one minute where no traffic can be sent/received.  This doesn't show up on the line monitor, but it sure does wreak havoc when I'm trying to play an online game or stream video.<br><br>Download speeds at night have been in the 2mb range.  Upload speeds have been right at 1mb.<br><br>I've restarted my nightly "call insight" ritual, and the other day a tech told me that his supervisor said there was some bad equipment in my area that is scheduled to be replaced.  Someone is supposed to be calling me with an ETA, but it has been 2 days and I haven't heard anything.  It's funny how I learn something new every time I call, yet nothing really ever happens.<br><br>My ticket with the NOC has been in "waiting" status since 11/15.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/1103674"><b>gotbusch</b></A> : Well, had a supervisor's crew come out to my place this afternoon.  Determined that my speeds outside were crap and fixed it in about 10 minutes.  Results are:<br><br>With a direct connect to the modem, I was able to pull about 9.4Mbps with Insight's beta speed test server (&raquo;<A HREF="http://74.128.14.17/" >74.128.14.17/</A>).<br><br>Did a direct connect to my Linksys BEFW11S4 v.4 router, and pulled about 7.2-8Mbps.<br><br>Went wireless and only pulled about 3.05Mbps (don't know if it was just bad timing for a speed test or what).<br><br>In summary, I'm happy with the fix because I'm better off than I have been for about 2-1/2 weeks.  Only problem I see now is, why is it that I'm pulling so low of speeds once I go wireless?  <br>Secondly, even though the speeds on Insight's network have gotten better, once I leave their network and hop onto Level3 or SprintLink, my latency issues return.  So, will Insight work with Level3 and Sprint to fix their routers?  Hopefully, but I'm not holding my breath. Anyone have any luck passing traceroute results to Insight and resolving the issue?]]></description>

I'll keep Insight for a couple of months to see if they fix the problem since I'm a sucker for 10mb/1mb.  However, I won't be paying for it.  I called and got a 1 month credit yesterday, and I suggest that you do the same petey_.<br><br>I've been having this problem since July 10th and they continue to give me the run-around.  I need some lag-free WoW time and the ability to actually check my email at night without it taking 20 minutes.<br><br>The total monthly charges (including tax) for DSL 6mb/512kb service from Bellsouth plus a basic phone line (rip off), is $72.61 in Louisville, KY if anyone is curious.  Insight is certainly the better deal when it works!]]></description>

I was supposed to get a call back from Teir2 Tech Support yesterday but I never received a call.  Of course he couldn't figure out my problem.  He was convinced it was on my end since he said... "Lets unplug everything from the modem and check it out"  I did as he requested.  "I am showing alot less packetloss now".. I was thinking hello captain obvious... I am not doing anything so it should have little or no packetloss.  I hook my computer up and do some speed tests and surfing "I see quite a bit of packetloss now compared to when I tested it with nothing hooked up to it."  Again kind of obvious.  When there is no traffic coming in or going out of my computer the packetloss is going to be drastically less since there is less packets to drop.  Anyways I don't plan on hearing back from him since he couldn't figure out anything.  Right now I am trying to upload a file but I cant even get it to upload past 50Mb without it dropping my connection!!<br><br>Edit:  I was looking at the line monitor results for us who have it set up....  looks like me and josht80 are having some of the worse consistant packet loss issues. I called Insight again and the tech I spoke to this time was miraculously able to view the status of my ticket with the NOC even though the previous 2 techs have assured me that it was not possible.  According to her, they have a 24 hours monitor on my connection. I called and complained, but got no where.  I did find out that my problem had been escalated to the NOC, but that may have just been something they told me to get off the phone. My speeds are good when I get them, and its just that spurt of packetloss that renders my internet dead.  Not long enough to drop the modem but long enough to stop anything I am doing.  Although a call might help, most of the time they will roll a tech out that has no idea of you problem and will call out someone else to check the main line when he didn't see a problem on your line.  After he has found nothing wrong he will say he fixed something (in my case a port somewhere) if its not better in a couple days call back... If it is not better instantly how did he even fix it? anyways good luck Josh on getting that fixed.  Hopefully all the problems will be gone soon.  My internet used to be rock solid until the last 6-8 months.  I have had more outages and problems in the last 6-8 months that I have had in like 5 years.<br><br>Jdunc,  Glad to see it was something simple with your speed issues.  Keep us updated on the packetloss if you are still seeing it.  I am getting good speeds most of the time like you are seeing.  I am getting around 10Mb/1Mb on insights test server and a little less on some of the others on this forums.]]></description>

Speed is fine, it runs great but every 15 minutes to an hour I get a spike of total loss of connectivity. The modem stays synched but no traffic going through. It doesn't disconnect me from what I'm doing (WoW or Halo) but it freezes me for a while and is very annoying. Sometimes it's happening 4-5 times in a 10 minute span. <br><br>I do tech support for Charter so I know how to troubleshoot things like this, and it's absolutely a problem on Insight's end. I haven't spent any time on the phone with them YET, but probably will tonight when I get home, although from the posts above mine it won't do much good. <br><br>It had actually been running pretty good before they rolled out the 10/1. I'll call tonight and post back if I get anywhere. My signals are excellent, just lose connection for 30 seconds to a minute at a time. ]]></description>

Of course when I call insight about the problem they try to bs me with all kinds of excuses about how it's a problem with my computer.  Last night I ran a few traceroutes and in the first 4 hops, which is insights network I was got times of 1034ms and 3036ms.  A tech is coming out on Tuesday and I already know the result, everything will test out fine.  Pathedic.]]></description>

I still have the ticket open.  They still have determined it is on there end they just cant figure out what.  I had to call the tech on the phone again since the field tech had already left.  Had to go through the same spill about I have already tried that and tell them I will do it again to show you but it will be the same result.  Not there fault they are just doing there job. <description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/0"><b>anon</b></A> : I still have about 20% packet loss in Okolona.<br><br>The tech came out on Friday.  He swapped modems (I have a brand new one).  After an hour of trying to get the new modem to pull an IP address, there was no change (big surprise).  He gave me his supervisor's card and told me to call when the problem was occuring.  There are periods of time where I have very low packet loss, which just happens to be when the techs show up at my house.  So far the supervisor isn't answering his phone or returning voice mail.<br><br>I have another tech scheduled to come out on Tuesday.  This will be the 4th one in the past month.  Let's hope I get lucky this time!]]></description>

It wasn't the modem, router or my NIC.  He was getting packetloss to a second modem I had with out it being hooked up to anything else ( the router or the nic on the comp).  It did the same as the old modem.  He sent out another tech to come out today.  The field tech did not even know what I was showing him when I was preforming a ping on google (ping google.com -t) and showing him where it lost the packets!  Do the techs only know how to check the signal?  I have a Problem escalation ticket number from the phone tech last night.  The Tech that came out today said he is going to have them check the main line tomorrow.  If it is not fixed tomorrow looks like I will be calling again and asking for a credit for the last few weeks that I have been having this trouble.  You would figure with numerous phone calls and 4-5 techs being out in the last couple months all my problems would be fixed.  /End Rant.  Just steaming right now.]]></description>

Yesterday I managed to talk to a customer svc rep who confirmed that I was getting 17% packet loss from their system to my modem.  This ruled out any networking problems in my house, and I just bought a brand new SB5120 modem.<br><br>I'm in the Okalona area.  I'll reply again with any results from the technician on thursday.]]></description>

I had a tech come out today and of course everything looks good on his end he replaced the cable from the line to the house which did not change anything.  I have had some really bad packet-loss to where I have lost all internet connection for a minute or so but it is not enough to kick my modem off.  I know its not the modem I have already replaced it and I know its not my router.  Just curious if anyone else has had an issues.  I will post some more information when I get home tomorrow afternoon.  My download and upload speeds are normal until the packet-loss hits.]]></description>
