Omaha, NE | [Help] Does MSN Block SMTP Over Ports 26 or 587 I currently have Earthlink DSL on Qwest's system. I could save quite a bit by using Qwest's DSL service with ISP service from MSN. I understand that MSN, like Earthlink, blocks SMTP on port 25. I can connect to my website mail using port 26 or 587 when port 25 is blocked. That works with Earthlink. Will it work with MSN as the ISP?

Do you know if MSN requires the use of its own Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server for outgoing email going through a web hosting site? |

127.0.0.1 | actually MSN won't allow mail relay through their mail servers. So, no. They actually would refer you to the web host and have you use their incoming and outgoing mail servers.
MSN doesn't use pop or smtp mail servers, they use http servers.

Actually, that's what I prefer. I guess the reason I'm being so cautious is that every time I've contacted Qwest about these kinds of ?'s, they keep trying to tell me that I will need to use the Qwest ISP (Qwest.net) with a static IP address. However, I think that should not be necessary since I'm not going to be hosting myself--but using a 3rd party webhosting service. Does that make sense?
