So are these channels actually DIGITAL signals? Or are they just analog signals on digital range channels? I'm trying to decide if it's worth the 12 bucks.

And, how much more is one of the DVR's that have bigger hard drives?
To straighten things out. The new channels that where added, where digital. What they have started to do is overlay certain analog channels (WGN, USA, HGVT, History, A&E), to the digital tiers, due to their contract with those parent companies require it.

With that said and done, it should not be long when Insight follows Comcast's lead to go with ADS. And it is not the company that is holding this up, but the City's that they have service in.

I just wish I had the option to block out channel 2 -> 100 in my guide. Why keep them there if there duplicated again above channel 100 it just more crap I stroll past when I am surfing the guide for something to watch. The page down button on my remote is already showing wear.

My vote “ needs work… “
Do you know how to use the FAV button to set those channels you watch in Favorites? Also, you can look by HD, movies, or Sports if looking for certain programs.

Easier way is to just use Zap2it.com or TVguide.com to look @ the listings, and just tune in that way.

or insight could do like dishnetwork or directtv and make so you can block the channels you don't have or want. If they would get out of the stone age and go real digital and get cable boxes that use new technology it might be a start. Sheesh the main no dvr box is the same one I got 3 yrs ago. My god the dvr's are junk and they won't let you get your own because they want there overpriced rental fee. My god mediacom has something right there dvr is 5.95

insight needs to wakeup as att said they are iptv to some insight markets.

They do. They have certain channels in "Digital Packs", which most likely will expand. And as for the DVR's being junk and the rental fee, that is only up to your opinion. The Moto boxes are pretty rock solid, and I have never had to replace ours in the two years we have had it.

You can download the DVR programming to your computer, by using Firewire, and the drivers. As for the drive, that is Motorola's fault, not the CATV providers. 160gb is not that bad.

I only record what I want, and due to the fact that networks rebroadcast crap all the time, there is no reason to keep stuff stored on mine (empty at the moment), so 120gb is fine with me.

Sorry, but Comcast has both the 120 & 160 gb drives. Only on the SA boxes does comcast have a larger drive, and that is due to SA used a larger drive. Motorola makes the boxes, and it is up to the end company to decide what devices they want available (SATA, USB, A/V Input, etc). The problem is, this can put a load on the box. These boxes are right now set up as a basic box, and maybe in the future, they will allow for more.

Problem is, it is for Moxi systems. And of course by "Expansion" via USB port, the CATV provider needs to allow it. As for upgrading, the end user cannot upgrade the drive in the DVR, which I did not get where you got that in the Motoroal page you posted. Not to slam you, but due Motorola & CATV providers (only SBC U-Verse can you do it with), you are better off if you want to record off-air, is to build your own PVR that records off of the box.

The channels that are now duplicated in the 3-digits (CNN, ESPN, etc) are NOT digital channels at all - JUST in the digital numbering range. The ONLY purpose of the this "channel reorg" was to cluster like analog AND digital channels in the same number block. When you watch one of these channels in the 3-digit range, ALL the box does is internally tune to the actually existing ANALOG channel that it resides on.

When Insight ever decides to get off it's ass & implement ADS, THEN you'll be watching them in a digital format. But, I'll guarantee you Insight will be one of the LAST operators to do this. (since they are the last to do everything else other operators have done for years - look how long it took them to get the dual-tuner DVR's here )

Where did you get the idea the CITY has anything to do with Insight NOT doing ADS? Insight does NOT need any kind of "permission" from the city (or ANYONE else for that matter) to implement it, since it would NOT alter the analog line-up. For that matter, the ONLY thing a city has any jurisdiction over is the lowest basic tier of service. (ie: broadcast basic) They can alter the expanded basic tier whenever they want & the city can't say a thing about it, as it is consider non-regulated.

I say send basic cable back to the basic channel 2-> 13 . Switch all the “Cable plus” stuff to digital. Once the FCC mandates the turning off of the analog broadcast station then you can even zap the 2-> 13 channels
The cable co are NOT required whatsoever to "turn off" analog service when the broadcast stations do. The pending 2009 shut-off date is ONLY for broadcast TV stations - cable can continue to stay in analog as long as they want. Matter of fact, there WILL be a majority of cable operators that will end up "downconverting" digital signals back to analog, so that customers do NOT have to have a digital box &/or TV. This will also give them a benefit over satellite customers - people will be able to continue using their analog TV sets just as they do now. (BUT, they will ALSO carry the digital HD signals as such, for the HD subs)

As a matter of fact, this is exactly how we have to get our local CBS affiliate in Springfield, since it is carried ONLY as a subchannel on our local digital MYTV affiliate. (who's analog signal was our CBS translator for our area) Insight picks up the digital CBS subchannel, downconverts it back to analog ch 3, then sends it back out on the system.

So, if I called the local office today and said I wanted a 6416, they'd rush me one out? lol. (That's the 160 gig, right?) I have the very first run of the dual-tuners, whichever model that is (80 gig, I believe).

Well, my box has been doing some weird stuff. Like.. the picture disappearing for no reason.. and it humming rather loudly during playback. Maybe I could get a replacement on a repair call.

I believe those are free?

The humming would be the drive is crashing, or getting ready to crash. Call and they should be able to replace if going bad, without the charge.
