I'm not sure exactly when you made the changes as I used to avoid searching (unless I really needed to) because that page was cluttered and hard for me to find the forum I wanted to search in so I haven't used it in awhile. Reading the current posts in this thread today got me to look at advanced search and I was delighted to see the changes.

I love the groupings and the bolding of each group header. It is MUCH faster now for me to locate what forum(s) I want to search in. I mostly do advanced searches, and usually in specific forums, so the clutter of that page has bothered me for a long time. Plus, my aging eyes had trouble with the small font. This is a wonderful improvement. :)

One question though. I just did an advanced search and chose "older" button. Ordered by date, the search went from June 15, 2005 to 2001. I didn't realize "recent" now goes back approximately 18 months? So, if I am looking for posts in the last 18 months, I should choose the "search recent" button instead of "older" button?

Advanced search is excellent now. Fast, accurate and I really like that I can sort it in three ways and resort after receiving results. That is very helpful.

This makes it very hard to compare. If the file sizes are small, boost is not activated. If they are too large, boost is ineffectual. This is just speculation as I don't have any knowledge of how boost is supposed to work.

I can't find any obvious reason for any inter-file delay, although I did add a script to make sure the virtual machine is not idled out of existance and the files are cached.

edit: just tried it from here. No inter-file delay apparent at all, and the speed is about the highest i can ever get for my feeble time warner connection..

Using Flat view, I no longer see a blue background and don't seem to be missing posts any longer. However, the second page of posts is all repeat posts from the first page but not all posts are repeated (about the last half are repeated). This is happening in IE6, Fx 1.5.0.7, SeaMonkey 1.3 and Opera 9.

In this one they start being repeated on the second page with Scree's post:

May be there's a way that I haven't figured out yet but currently, once you create a custom RSS feed on that page, it's going to stay there forever even if the link no longer works. What I'd like to know is why has the site kept a security scan test from 2001, several from 2002 and several from 2003 but won't let me keep speed test results older than 6 months? I know I can delete the security scans but why does the site auto delete speed tests after six months and not security scans for six years?!

I would find it useful to have kept some old speed tests but there is no button to do that. I don't need any of the old security scans...I've just been lazy about deleting them and kept thinking the site would.

Also the link to 'review your ISP' is nicer now, it shows direct links to the most commonly reviewed ISPs instead of asking the user to go off and use site search to find the ISP. It may just be me, but I have a dickens of a time on occasion with spotting a forum.

Recent example was a firewall question thread that I wanted to move from software to Security.
(Let me explain that I mostly sit back in the chair with a big trackball)
I couldn't spot Security... had to finally grab the keyboard and ctrl-F

And when I go to all forums, trying to remember where dev/null is situated.

They are organized by categories, and I guess we get used to them...but it also seems like I hit two different layouts depending on what I am trying to do.
And look for Security Vendors in a different section than Security.

Just wishing.....

I think they have languished for too long. The ISP listings, tests and tools, all that good stuff.

So if you post your wish here, or bring up an old one, and it can be done without taking too long, it might get done.

In the last few days I've been tweaking
* speed tests
* line quality test
* member test history
* finding ISPs and lodging ISP reviews
* home page news article layouts
* navigation

as well as rationalizing hardware, ordering more, etc.
