Re: Something new for our forum

I just found something out last night about the line monitoring and forgot to post it.

There is no need for third party software - if your IP changes, you can always edit your monitor to reflect the new IP.

You just need to do 2 things:

1) enter static IP
2) check the "dynamic" box

You must do both.

So don't let having a dynamic IP stop you from joining in.

Invite sent to you, zbestwun2001 See Profile. You need to click on the link in the invite and the accept link. Do you have your line monitoring set up yet? If not, that should be done first to make sure it's working right. The link for our Group is in the forum's links on the front page and at top of each page in the forum. Look up -- DSLX Monitors.

I just set up my line monitoring. Will you send me an invite as well?

Then what do I do with the invite?

And, why do I need to expand my profile (regarding setup, ISP charge...)?

Thanks

Inivte sent to pace See Profile.

When you get the invite, click on the link in it and then accept on the page you are brought to.

You go to »/prefs/flair and select in the dropdown box "My home connection" and enter the info there. It will appear by your graph so that others will know what ISP you have, the advertised speed, your modem, router, etc. This information also appears on your profile page.

I'm ready for an invite.

Would be nice to use the router to update the dynamic dns instead of DeeEnEs. (WRT54GL v4.71.1, Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c)

Have you checked out the FAQs regarding this?

»Line Monitoring FAQ

You don't just have to use DeeEnEss for dynamic dns. There are others. The one thing you can't do is use a domain name instead of an IP address:

»Line Monitoring FAQ »Can I supply a domain name for monitoring instead of an IP address?

Thanks.

I'm using the functionality built into the router's modified firmware to update my dyndns.org account. It would be nice to do something similar for dslreports.

I read in the FAQ that the following URL will do an update, so it's just a matter of figuring out how to do it!

http://usr:pwd@dslreports.com/nic?action=edit&started=1&host_id=NNNNNN&myip=A.B.C.D

I've seen a command that can go in the router's startup script to run something on a periodic basis (cron?). Then I would need to figure out a way to substitute the current WAN address for the A.B.C.D.

It's out of my league, but I know how to search!!!

You might want to ask how to do this in the forum for your router. Is it a Linksys? If so we have a forum »Linksys or »Hardware By Brand

vb, check your IM's. It looks like your IP changed. You need to update your monitor with your current IP address.
