My question is:

is there a performance or reliability difference between cable and cat5. I am assuming they will install their box in my basement near where the existing phone, cable, & electric comes into my place. Then wires would go to each room where the TVs & Uverse boxes are/will be located.

Would I be smart to have them run cat5 to those locations or use the existing coax cable?

The service is just available here and I HATE time warner. Well, I don't hate them, I really dispise the service I have been getting. Internet down at least once a day and having to re-boot my HD-DVR every other day and loosing HD program. Okay my rant is over.

Thank you for any advice you can offer on the cabling!

I have had my line monitored for almost 7 years now. It has never caused me any problems and has been a great way for me to see the consistency of my service. Looking at some other DSL areas I see the same thing. For the most part Texas monitors show high ping loss for about a 24 hour period. It included me as well. As other at&t users in other states were fine I would guess it was an at&t node not answering pings very nicely.

If done properly it can make finding large area problems very easy to identify and if people are searching for service they can see in general what they might expect in a certain region or in this case a new service.

You can bet as u-Verse takes off everyone will be very interested in seeing how well it works or how it compares to their current service. Really any information on what UVerse looks like will be ever so helpful.
