franzcatchMad APremium join:2003-06-24 Saint Louis, MO | '94 Camaro windshield wipers not working properly My wipers only work if I turn the knob up full blast... and the wipers go full speed. If I set the knob to anything but full speed the wipers freeze in place on the windshield.
They used to reset themselves automatically to the bottom of the windshield when I would turn the wipers off. Now the only way I can get them to reset is if I time it just right and stop the wipers just as they hit the bottom.
Any ideas?

This happens typically with Semi's due to they use the air system to drive the wiper motors, but due to cars use actuall electrical motors, it could be the switch, or motor itself. -- I threw out the map a long time ago. | reply to franzcatch Is this when using delay? |
|
franzcatchMad APremium join:2003-06-24 Saint Louis, MO | reply to franzcatch there are about 5 or 6 delay settings, one slow but non-delayed setting, and one full speed setting.

 | That makes for many possibilities.
I take it you don't have a CSM...
You might check that the wiper motor has a good ground. Beyond that, the delay board on the wiper motor could be a problem, the wiper switch in the column could be bad (that will require a couple special tools to replace easily). Or it could just be a bad connection or the park switch, but to trace everything you really need a CSM, the process is a bit involved. A problem with the MFL will usually just show up as just a delay problem. |

| As stated the ground may be bad, run a wire with alligator clips from the motor base to the negative side of the battery. I would try the board next, park the wipers before disassembly. It should come with some kind of (vague)instruction. The switch in the column will be tough to change. I used to have a spare the I used to plug in at the base of the column as a "known good" switch test. -- We learn through the exchange of information, tell me more...... |

Only bad thing is, when they go bad, you get the same result (wiper jumps when turned on, or only moves when you move the control from off to on quickly). -- I threw out the map a long time ago. I have 1 truck with air wipers and my newer ones have electric with a delay. I can honestly say that the electric is much better in terms of reliability. -- Join Team Helix "Screw normal, because if you're normal the crowd WILL accept you, but if you're deranged....the crowd will make you their leader" - Titus |

 | reply to Greg_Z Unless it's one of those VW's that used the spare tire as an air supply... |

waka join:2002-06-01 Tacoma, WA 1 edit | reply to franzcatch It is probably the multi-switch. The multi-switch is an all in one component that has the hazard flashers (some models), turn signal and wiper controls, and cruise control on one arm. They go bad all the time. |
|
 | Highly unlikely, the only controls in the MFL are for cruise control. The wiper switch is in the column and the MFL plugs into it it. The turn switch is under the steering wheel. |
