Re: Something new and exciting for Embarq members

Put it in your public comment on your line monitoring page where you enter your information.

Vaprotan See Profile is right on the money. Take a look at his graph. He's done that already. I've done that with mine also.

I just found something out last night about the line monitoring and forgot to share it.

There is no need for third party software - if your IP changes, you can always edit your monitor to reflect the new IP.

You just need to do 2 things:

1) enter your current IP address in the "Monitor this static IP" box

AND

2) check the "dynamic" box

You must do both.

So don't let having a dynamic IP stop you from joining in.

What does that box do different? I was manually updating my IP (well, it hasn't changed yet) but when I checked the box it cleared all my data.

Maxo, I don't know. Yur graph looks blank to me and like you just started. How long ago did you do this?

Edit: Your graph is starting to populate again. I'm thinking that when you update your IP you start all over because you are telling the monitor that you have a new IP to monitor.

My IP hasn't changed since I've started. I selected the dynamic IP option and that's when it reset my data.

If you didn't have the dynamic box checked before and then you checked it after your monitor started is in a way updating so that could have caused your data to reset. I really don't know, Maxo, sorry.

I'm not sure how this works...are you pinging my line or do I have to install some program to send my pings to you?

I enter my static IP on that setup page..is that all I have to do?

DSLR is pinging you. You need to click on the link in the invite and accept.

There is no need for third party software - if your IP changes, you can always edit your monitor to reflect the new IP.

You just need to do 2 things:

1) enter IP in the static IP box AND 2) check the "dynamic" box. You must do both.

Make sure your router accepts WAN requests. Make sure you are pingable.

»Tweaking FAQ

»Line Monitoring FAQ

Make sure you also go to »/prefs/flair and select "My home connection" and enter the info there. It will appear by your graph so that others will know what service, etc you have.

You also might want to add your location in the Public Comment area of your monitor.
