What is Norton LiveConnect ?

I got it too. Anyone know what it is?

I'm not sure what it does. But you can remove it from add/remove programs.

I'd find it worthwhile if one of the Symantec gurus would comment and explain what this does. If there's no comment, I'm going to assume that its some sort of adware Symantec is pushing out to users. AND that Symantec's policy is to install adware on users pcs/workstations without even asking for permission.

I'd hate to think that, but it sure feels that way now. Please set the record straight.

Well, I'm wondering if this isn't a reincarnation of Symantec's Live Advisor (which was discontinued back sometime around 2002) from what I've heard so far.

I really regretted Symantec's removal of Live Advisor, so if this is simply the same thing under a different name, I can only applaud Symantec for reinstating it.

Still, you're right; we need one of the Symantec types to provide some further information on exactly what this is.

Yoo hoooo, Symantec gurus.......you'll comment and give advice on minor details that affect only a few, but, on a wide-spread forced download, you wont comment???

I Googled, and all I could find were references to javascript and LiveConnect, but nothing definitive. I even searched Symantec's site and found nothing.

digital --I did that too. Its why I'm so surprised Symantec gurus wont comment. Its odd, considering how well-regarded Symantec is. Its a program of about 3mbs, which is approx 10% of NIS's size, and no comments what it is.

No refernce, no comment - its why I'm so surprised.

Could you tell me what directory you found this in?

I have used NIS2007 since beta and have no references to this item that I could find.

In the Add/Remove section of the CP does it give you any info about the product ?

Where did you get the info about the size of the program?

Just very curious.

When I click on Symantec Corporation it brings me to SYMC's home page.

In older versions of Netscape LiveConnect enabled JavaScript programs to interact with Java Applets, Java-enabled Navigator plug-ins, and built-in Java system classes on the browser.

Years ago LiveConnect was what is now known as LiveUpdate

no mozilla products

I checked last night and my pcs with NIS installed (which are properly licensed etc) have the product installed.

Any ideas?

To : InformationWeek guy -- you misqouted me. I was asking for an explanation from Symantec and none was posted. Hence the second comment. You're not being fair to SYMC.

To : SYMC guy -- I know you'll read this, so, dont hide. Your comment, "...It's not adware. We're not trying to sell anyone anything...", is simply odd. Shouldnt SYMC be trying to sell software to every possible person on the planet? Isnt giving updates a marketing tool to get more long term users?

I'm going to ask that question on the next conference call. If you dont know what that means, ask your IR folks.

Better yet, Symantec, why not just explain what LiveConnect is and exactly what it does?
