This may be a stupid question...but I just set up the monitoring service and I was wondering if it is updated in real time or hourly or weekly?

Two geographically distributed (US based) servers ping your IP address(es) once every 10 minutes...

I believe it updates in real time. Somebody can correct me if I am mistaken.

If it's still free (not just "first week" or "first month" but ... ongoing) then please send me an invite.

Thanks,
Bill

Ok, I started line monitoring this morning. What else do I need to do?

What is this invite I should be getting?

Sorry, I'm at work and have to be careful about the boss seeing me online so I can't really scroll around for too long to read through this thread.

Oh, question: Since I had to set my router to make me pingable, does this compromise security while surfing the net and gaming? I'm a little uncomfortable about this.

I have sent you an invite. You need to accept it. As far as bring pingable, I don't really see it as much of a security threat.

Don't know if this question belongs here.

I started the Charter line monitoring yesterday. I see at some point, I have packet loss and high ping spike to SFO, CA.

What does this mean? How can I tell at what time of day/evening this happened?

I'm confused. I know when I do ping tests to CA, WA (west coast), I have 100-180ms. That is not good is it? Can this be corrected?

Or, where do I ask these questions?

The smoke ping has been an invaluable tool in getting charter to fix my connection, the tech's argued that since the signals levels were fine I could not be having issues with my service untill I showed a tech that actually decided to show up even after he could ping my modem the print out of my service to the 3 sites across the US.

I thought about doing that also but I'm concerned about it causing me more lag when I game.

How do I read the graph & what can I do with the info I get since I'm showing over 300ms pikes at certain times of the day. I don't understand it & can't tell when these spikes happened.
