Oh, question: Since I had to set my router to make me pingable, does this compromise security while surfing the net and gaming? I'm a little uncomfortable about this.

Don't know if this question belongs here.

I started the Charter line monitoring yesterday. I see at some point, I have packet loss and high ping spike to SFO, CA.

What does this mean? How can I tell at what time of day/evening this happened?

I'm confused. I know when I do ping tests to CA, WA (west coast), I have 100-180ms. That is not good is it? Can this be corrected?

Or, where do I ask these questions?

The smoke ping has been an invaluable tool in getting charter to fix my connection, the tech's argued that since the signals levels were fine I could not be having issues with my service untill I showed a tech that actually decided to show up even after he could ping my modem the print out of my service to the 3 sites across the US.

I thought about doing that also but I'm concerned about it causing me more lag when I game.

How do I read the graph & what can I do with the info I get since I'm showing over 300ms pikes at certain times of the day. I don't understand it & can't tell when these spikes happened.

Signed up here, installed Dyndns.org, got your invite, made myself pingable, but I cannot for the life of me get the host url to work properly.

Using:

*replaced my username:password with the real ones, and my NNNNNN ID was replaced with the real one, what I get back is a pop up box stating Windows cannot find..... if I get rid of the ID:PW dslreports.org box pops up asking for the ID and PW, so Im guessing the formatting has just changed in the way a URL will accept the ID and PW in the beginning of that url??

Any assistance would be appreciated
