I have a router running dd-wrt. I presume this would work with that?

Update: It works! I guess I had to let it process a while. My settings are below for the set-up. As for dd-wrt on my router, these are the settings:

DDNS Service
User Name: guest [apparently you don't need to input the user name or password for afraid.org--maybe because of the hash info?]
Password: guest
Host Name: mydomain.com, [the hash information from freedns.afraid.org (see below)]
Do not use external ip checked: "No" selected.

hash info: login your account at afraid.org, click on Dynamic DNS, click on the Direct URL link, and copy everything after the "update.php?" in the address field of your browser:

»freedns.afraid.org/dynamic/updat···OTI0NzU=

Basically, this is the hash information: "VUNXVDG2MzFVMVVBQUdKNlJnMEFBQUFoOjgwOTI0NzU="

so it should look like:

Host Name: mydomain.com, VUNXVDG2MzFVMVVBQUdKNlJnMEFBQUFoOjgwOTI0NzU=

note that it needs to include EVERYTHING for me, it include the "=".

Got the invite, and it looks like I'm set-up. However, I see that my ip address is being shown as afraid.org, which is the free ddns service I'm using.

My settings:

Dynamic IP: (checked)
IP from this DNS: XXXXX.com [yes, I put my correct domain here.]
Unique number for dynamic DNS client: XXXXXX [yes, I put my correct 6 digit number here.]

The "Monitor this STATIC IP:" field is what shows the afraid.org IP address:

72.8.150.30

I verified that afraid.org has my correct DDNS IP address, and I verified that I am pingable by going to this site:

»www.kloth.net/services/ping.php

and pinged my domain name (XXXXX.com) and, just for kicks, my dynamic IP.

Anyone have any ideas? Been scratching my head and looking for a solution for about an hour now...

One question, I put in the DNS server as 24.196.64.53 to start monitoring. Is this the correct setting for Charter?

I thought my IP changed with Charter?

Dyn.com wants to make me sign up for a free trial to set up my service there. Is there any way around this? Sorry, still new at all of this.

I think I got it figured out. I signed up for a No-IP account and it seems to be resolving, just don't have any data yet. Thanks for the help.

I get a weekly report but it never has any relevant information on it. Is it possible to check my email address (xxxxxx@charter.net) and see it that's a report different from what is offered here. I signed up for it on this website.

Hi skj, I just came back to this thread and saw your reply. I checked the testhistory graphs, but after alphabetizing the Palo Alto, Ca choice, and the NY choice, couldn't find anything under my user name.

The report I receive periodically always has this statement:

********** EMPTY REPORT *********
You selected dynamic IP, but we are not receiving
IP updates for it yet.

Any clues from this?

Since you indicated you have a dynamic IP, if your IP address has changed than the monitor will not be able to receive any data. You would have to enter in your new IP address.
