It would make sense to do your own, but how can comcast patent what cable labs came up with?
Cablelabs is kinda huge, you would think they would patent their own stuff before letting someone else no?
Either way I forgot to even look for the article, but am quite sure this isn't the technology that comcast is using.

Depending on the business agreement the parties have, there can be a couple of different ways in which Comcast is pursuing a patent. First, Comcast may have had a hand in conceiving or developing the concept. In that case, a Comcast inventor would be named in the patent. The parties would then decide in a separate agreement as to ownership issues.
