Re: I am getting a security alert...can anyone help ?

said by mangurian:

My security prog pops-up every half hour and tells me there are two unknown devices on my network.

It gives an IP and a MAC address for each one.
The IPs are: 192.168.93.254 and 192.168.72.254
The macs are: 00:50:56:f8:c0;93 and 00:50:56:fd:19:8d

Any clue as to what these might be ?

I have a D-link router (supposedly secured) with wireless disabled.

00-50-56 (hex)VMWare, Inc.

That's a VMware mac address, so either you have VMware loaded and are emulating some other OS, or someone else on the network is.

Interesting. Where do you look up MACs like that?

The worst part is I have a couple hundred OUI's memorized at this point. I had to look up the VMWare mac, but often... I just know what brand it is.

Hmmmm....Usually geeks don't have such nice cars.

Seriously though, that would worry me. Maybe you just need to drink more.
