Here's the relevant part of the tracert (probably your issue):

Pings look okay, but the trace shows some nastiness at alter.net.

Let the ping run a few minutes and see if there are any abnormalities.

Let it run a few minutes...noticed some spiking here and there along with quite a bit more loss than the first run:

Ping statistics for 63.209.253.129:
Packets: Sent = 110, Received = 100, Lost = 10 (9% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 25ms, Maximum = 232ms, Average = 42ms

But, we're getting somewhat off-topic now. I think we've confirmed there is something of an issue with hitting addresses outside the Optimum network.

I'm in Middlesex NJ and am also having problems I just noticed. About 300 down and almost 1.8 up. I was always at about 11-12 down and 1.6 up so this is not acceptable for down speeds anyway. I am just waiting to see if it clears up before I make a stink about it.

same here in 07407

Called rep, told him about speakeasy, he said, run OOL ftp test, and I did that.. Oddly enough, I had almost perfect speeds (15/2).

But the speakeasy is barely getting 300-400kbits on download, while upload is fine. I said this to the rep, and he said OOL is not responsible for outside speedtest servers..

Gonna try to speak with supervisor next time, maybe pinpoint to this thread

I noticed a slow down the last few days but didn't think anything of it as I was not doing any downloading. But last night around 11pm I noticed pages were really taking a long time to load and that's when I relaized something was wrong. Speed tests were less than DSL speeds. This morning 9am I am back to normal sppeds with the same speed tests and pages are loading really fast again. Here are my results
from Middlesex NJ.
Speakeasy-
11/19/2006 2:00 PM GMT DL - 13392 kb/s UL- 1805 kb/s 45 ms New York, NY ~ 50 mi

Last night was DL speeds that were barely in the 3 digit levels (100-300 kb/s). So all is well for now as I was going to call and complain this am if it was still a problem.

Not bad considering last night was like dialup to me (I have regualar OOL not boost). So far so good today, though my speeds have usually been a little faster still.

Try speedtest to CA and see what that shows.

Also from middlesex NJ

I have just completed a series of speed tests with some very mixed results. I have OOL (30Mb) Boost:
BBR Tweak Test - all smiley faces
BBR OOL test = 3.84 MB/s
BBR Speakeasy NY = 752k/3716k
BBR DC = 617k/3716k
BBR Nacnet Parsippany = 12.55Mbps/3753k

OOL Speedcheck (from home page) = 27.073m/4.2487 and 27.226/4.301M

Anybody know what is going on yet?

I'm not so concerned about my upload speed being at peak but it always seems to be worst then most, anyone have any idea why?

Go back and check your tweak test. It says that your Path MTU Discovery is set incorrectly.

And try a NY or NJ speed test to get a more accurate reading of your connection speed.
